Well I took my Israeli K98 out to the range yesterday for the first time in a while and its shooting about 10" right at 100 yards. How would one go about adjusting the front sight? Is there a special tool? And how would I get the front sight hood off? Just slide it off?

Thanks

The way I get my front sight on and off is to use snap ring pliers. You can configure them so they spread open when you squeeze down. The hoods are spring loaded and quite tricky to get on/off otherwise.

Then you need to drift your front sight to the right to move your bullet impact left. I've used a brass hammer but more precise is one of the front sight pushers you can buy or make with a small clamp and some creativity.

I've seen sight pusher tools for sale on Numrich, ebay etc. Or you could use a brass drift punch and hammer it over. I think the sight pushers are probably a little less violent method.

I haven't installed a sight hood yet, but from what I've read they can be a bit tough to pry the spring steel open without a tool. Some have reported success using lock-ring pliers.

edit: well that was an almost perfect repeat of the post above. I'll never get those 3 minutes back, lol

Thanks guys! I might opt for an actual sight tool instead of using a punch. My concern is the sight hood at this point. I wonder why they could just use a simple slide on sight hood instead of some overly complicated thing.

cuz they're...... German!

Actually, it pretty much is slide on, its just spring loaded with some tabs that lock it down tight so it doesn't fall out.

In the field the soldiers removed the front site hood with a shoelace or string. Tie a loop on each side and pull it apart with your hands. As for making an adjustment, a sight tool works best but make sure it can move before you go to the range. It may have been sitting for a very long time and needs some oil. you may need a brass punch just to get it to move once or twice before you head out.
