Advice for 1st rifle. .22 cal, but what?

New to CGN, new to rifles.
Ive heard that .22 rifle is the best starter rifle for target shooting, but thats as far as my knowledge goes. What should I be looking for in a rifle, and what brands/accessories would you recommend?
 
Welcome to CGN, I would be looking for a 223 to start with. A little cheaper to shoot and when you start realoading cheaper as well. As for a modle get what you like and can afford. Savage and Remengton you cant go wrong. Al depends on what yopu want to do.
 
Assuming you're looking for a 22LR to learn on before moving to a centrefire precision rifle I'd recommend a bolt action like a Savage or CZ, which are both around $500-600. You may also want to ask this question in the rimfire section to see if you can get some more opinions
 
If your looking for a .22 rimfire and your budget is rather healthy then CZ or even a nice used anshutz is the way to go...

If your just looking to wet your feet in the target/fun shooting arena then the savage Mk2 is a very affordable option with downrite stunning accuracy for what your going to pay...

I am pretty new as well january
After alot of research i went with a Marlin XT 22lr
and i absolutely love it great out of the box true value for the money.
Next i got a Marlin 795 again research said proven shooter
again no dissapointment .
Of cource my latest was the natural progression a 1953 Russian SKS
Next shotgun im thinkin Maverick 88
Then next Savage Axis in 308 to round out the collection
You will find that you dont need to spend 1000.00 a firearm to get a great accurate and trustworthy shooter.
