Advice for a newbie?

My BIL just bought a Browning BLR in 30-06. It is a beautiful gun, but the trigger is awful. I estimate it at 11lbs or more. IMHO a hunting rifle trigger should be around 3.5lbs. Any more than that & it affects your aim.

Thompson/Center Encore

So I think I have changed my mind again. Now I think I want a Thompson Center Encore Pro-Hunter Rifle with the switchable barrels. Any one use one or have thoughts?

I have one. Great rifle! I originally got it with a .30-06 barrel then bought a .223 barrel for "varmints". I am saving up for a muzzleloader barrel and would also like to get a .260 Remington. Maybe even a shotgun barrel.

Get a hammer extension for it - if you mount a scope as low as possible it is hard to reach the hammer.

It truly does only take seconds to switch barrels and the great thing is that the barrel is still sighted in when you do switch.

Another good thing about the Encore is that with a 24" barrel it is still just the same over all length as my little Winchester M94 carbine .30-30.

Also - you can have a room full of barrels and still only have to register 1 firearm.

I am right handed but have poor vision in my right eye.

Question, would using a scope cure your vision issue?
If it would, then buy whatever firearm you like, scope it and shoot it right handed, it will feel more natural to you.

Myself, I pretty much have to scope everything now except rifles with peep sights. I’m unable to focus very well on rear sights.

Scope won't help it. Cataract is the big problem with it and just poor vision, also it is lazy. So ya not a great eye. It isnt horrible yet, I am just thinking for the future. I'm 32 now and its getting worse. So I don't want to spend money on a gun that I will have trouble with as the years tick by.
