I just picked up a Rem 597.
I've shot .22's before, but this is the first one I've ever owned. As such, it's the first one I've bought, the first one I'll have to clean, and the first one I'll have to maintain.
What needs to be done before the gun should be shot?
If I pick up a rifle cleaning kit and give it a good scrubdown, and relube, will I be ready to hit the range?
I'm going to stop by the store on the way home to pick up a cleaning kit, a few boxes of various ammo, and maybe a scope and mount. Anything else that I need to add to my list?
Thanks,
