I'm fairly new to collecting and am interested in working towards adding a 'wow' piece to my collection. I've been collecting mostly either Canadian or Commonwealth gear and small arms. I am interested in other pieces from other nations as well and am interested in any input, but I'm leaning towards either a No4 (T) or a deactivated Bren. I know there is a pretty big price gap there and to be honest I'm not sure what a 4T would even sell for as a complete set up here but that's kinda the range I'm willing to work towards. Just wondering if one would be a more sound investment than another more than anything. Deactivation on the Bren's part doesn't sway me, I have enough shooters already. What do you guys think?

i would say go for a piat and bomb, but that might be out of your price range, a nice #### and click bren only seems to be going up in price too
 
I've never considered myself a collector, but I guess i have lots so that makes me a collector. I buy them because i like them, and i buy them when they become available and are a good deal. Sooner or later your freinds will find out that you collect old guns and will ask you if you have any interest in theirs. If you do , buy it.

IMO, if something on sale is a good deal, get one or several of them. You can always trade it off later for something you don't have. After a while of finding the common stuff, then you occasionally find less common stuff, and so on...


Stuff that is common and cheap now, may not so cheap and common later. For example, Mosins are a good price and easily available. Ten or twenty years from now, who knows? Twenty and thirty years ago, you could not give a way a Lee Enfeild. Look at how popular they are today. people are kicking themselves for not buying 20 of them. If you also acquire ammo and accessories with your firearms, it makes you collection fuller and more valuable.
 
Buy guns YOU like. Sell the guns you've lost interest in. Don't get caught up on defining a theme or what other people tell you is "collectable".
 
Let see I bought my matching (T) for $3,200.00, five years ago. Wanna guess what it is worth today? Before you write the check do your research, find out what the markings are, I've seen mismatched (T) being advertised at $4,000.00. I guess there really is a sucker born every minute, unless you just gotta have it. The story is find out what interests you the most, then research, research, research. As Sean Connery said "There endith the lesson".
 
definitely! I've looked into the 4T quite a bit and have a good idea what I'm looking for with it, but I would for sure ask the experts before I dropped that much coin on anything. And if I do go that route it will either be one I can see up close or one from a respected dealer, not unseen/Joe Blow.

Your T is it complete kit? With the transit case, sight tin and proper '07 sling and everything? If I do go this route, I think I will try to bring one in from the US. Enfields in general have a higher price on their heads here let alone a T. Deals can be had too, an original that I think was a police issue unit minus scope and any accessories went for $400 in Florida a while ago, and it was authentic. Down there right now for a complete one I think you'd pay right around $5,000 for a complete with transit case and scope tin, sling etc unit plus duty and import fees. What should it be here?
 
T* rifle with shipping crate, scope, scope box, mount, etc. all matching probably $4000-8000.

Not many years ago they sold for much cheaper and I know a gent that was lucky enough to pick one up.

But for that price, and a "WoW" piece, get a Boys Anti Tank Rifle.
 
You can shoot a Boys, too.

Brass is exactly the same as .50 BMG, just with a headspacing belt added. Brass tube from the plumbing supply,sliced into rings, sweated on with low-temp solder, will work fine; it doesn't have to take any pressure.

Bullet diameter is .562", which is only half a thou over 9/16 of an inch. Mould should be easy to make..... or Lee will make you one for $100.

After that, you just need a new plastic shovel and a barrel of powder. And a big funnel. Don't forget the funnel.

No point getting something that you can't shoot for under $30 a shot...... especially when you can load your own for $1 a shot and a handful of wheelweights.

Most important of all: have fun.

That's what it's all about.
