Alright, finally got a chance to test her a bit. Gas ports are all good and it was lubed/greased well.
I gave the magwell a sand and refitted the stock liner, and it fit much better. The mags didn't 'stick' like before so either way I'm happy I did that.
Didn't seem to make a difference, however one of the rear tabs from the malfunctioning 5/20 mags came right off, so I'm thinking it is simply a mag quality issue as the one 5/20 mag still functions great.
Next question, how do you determine the make of the mag there are no markings... The 5/20 mag that DOES work is not riveted it just has a really long spring guide 'plate' that prevents it from going down past 5 rounds, is that specific to a brand of mag?
If the mag has absolutely no markings, then it is likely a Norinco/Chinese production.
I have a mag with the long metal strip welded onto the follower to "pin" it from receiving more than 5 rounds.
What can happen with these older style ones (which could cause the rounds to not rise up enough to get picked up by the bolt now that you mention it) is that they can be curved. Mine was curved to the left.
What happened was it was getting caught/jammed between the mag wall and the spring when it was compressed with the ammuntion.
I had to bend it back the other way to prevent it from doing this and the feed problems stopped 100% with this magazine.
Did you end up trying all these mags in a different stock M14 rifle? Did the problems persist?
