Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving!
I recently and finally acquired a Mod 70 super grade, 26 bbl, in 300 Win Mag. Never had I seen such a beautiful rifle in my life. It is really a piece of art.
The reason I bought it was a planned moose hunting trip to New Newfoundland next year. I already have a 9.3x62 but I wanted to take two rifles for that once in a life time trip, just in case.
I thought I would load it with Accubond LR 190 or Partition 200, both at around 3000 fps for that trip. Then I started thinking I would also like to hunt deer with it in the woods, using a 165 grains, where max distance would be 200-250 yards. I do not wish to load those 165 grains at 3200 for the woods. Speer offers loads with IMR 4064 at around 2900 and IMR 4831 at around that speed too. The 30-06 can do that as well but I still want to use this 300 win mag in the woods. I hunt from a treestand for the most part.
