I am working on a bit of a No.5 project that involves one of Numrich's replacement flashhiders and sight blades. My problem is that the sight blade is a very loose fit in the flashhider's dovetail and would fall out immediately if the gun were fired. I am assuming there's a pin or shim or something (that wasn't included) in these that keep the sightblade in place however I am at a loss at how to proceed.

There is a small groove in the top of the dovetail (see photo) in which I could try to wedge a small pin to retain the sight but I have to find a small pin first...

In a related surplusrifle.com article the boys drilled and tapped threads for a set screw to remedy this problem. I guess that's an option, but I thought I'd check here first. None of my reference materials discuss this.

any advice?

thanks

You can use a centerpunch and raise the material on the flashhider underneath where the front sight sits on. Just punch a couple of divots to raise the material and try your sight for fit. It should take up some of the slop.
Mine was the same way.
