I've come into possession of a .375 H&H and am on the hunt for a scope to chase North American big game primarily in Northern Ontario and potentially the odd trip out to Alberta. Gun will be used on everything from white tail to big bears and moose, the country will run from open country to thick bush. Rifle is a Browning X-Bolt with iron sights.

Options I'm considering are

1. Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x Illuminated Firedot (concerned this reticle is designed around .223 calibre but not clear on that point)
2. Leica Er 1-5x or 1-8x version
3. Schmidt & Bender 2.5-10 Summit

Welcome your insights here CGN folks, I'm leaning towards the Leupold as I really like the illuminated dot but am concerned this is meant for .223/5.56 calibres.

I went with a Leupold VX6 1-6x24 Circle dot reticle on mine. Decent eye relief and illumination powers on and off with motion. Better scope than the VX-R.

I far prefer something in the 2-8 range to a 1-5 on a .375. Much more versatile and the 2/2,5 is no handicap at close range

Agree. That's what I have (2.5-8x36) on my .375 Ruger, more versatile especially on an "all around" North American rifle.

For North America, probably the 2.5-8 athough, for Africa, I quickly grew to appreciate the Trijicon 1-4. That served me well for shorts out to 250 yards (baboon).

It's a super-practical bright scope that won't let you down when stuff is up close.

Clarke is right. 2.5-8x Leupold is tailor made for the 375. But if you're dead set on a 1-4x then the Leupold VX2 1-4x or VX3 1.5-5x is what you want. I like the Heavy Duplex reticle, but that's me.

Thanks for all the input gang, further research from this thread and elsewhere led me to the Schmidt&Bender 2.5-10x purchased from Wolverine Supplies today.

Beauty scope but too heavy, too short on ER and a tad bulky for my taste, especially on a .375.

The advice to consider a VX3 in either a 1.5-5x20 or 2.5-8x36 was bang on IMO.

I am sure the S&B will be great. For others reading this thread...don't overlook good iron sights and a fixed 4x mounted in top grade quick release rings/bases like EAW or a BRNO Zkk base...if that's your rifle of choice.

First the good news - Scope has arrived

Now the not so great news - Scope is marked up and scratched

I've sent a note off to Wolverine asking what they do in cases like this, where it's not unusable but not quite what I expected to receive for the cash laid out on this. Past experience is they are a stand up group and this is likely a case of a large inventory of items for sale and this slipped through the cracks. Not sure what to expect but fingers crossed we can sort something out.
