I am looking for advice on buying a Leupold extended eye relief scope. I want to use the scope on one of my M-305/ M-14s.(Springfield scout mount)
From the research I have done the Leupold is the way to go, but feel free to suggest other options.
I don't have piles of money so I am looking for the best bang for the buck.
Also;
What power?
Fixed or variable power?
Which make and model?
I want this set up for mostly close in, don't plan to use this set up say past 300 yards.
I might even consider a red dot.
What rings?
I am thinking Leupold QR rings.

Thanks for looking.

For a scope mount, you need an IER(Intermediate Eye Relief) rather than an EER(Extended Eye Relief) scope. The EER models are intended for use on handguns.
I think Leupold has only one model, a 2.5X fixed power scout scope. Check the Leupold web site to find out for sure. I think the model is 58810.
I have one of these scopes, and it is very quick if you aim with both eyes open.
There are some EOTech and Elcan holographic sights that would serve the same purpose. I don't know anything about them.

Typically, handgun scopes have longer eye relief than "scout scopes", (18" as opposed to 12") so while you might get lucky, the arrangement would not be perfect. I see on page 89 of the new SIR catalog they are trying to pass a Bushnell pistol scope off as a scout scope.

Why wouldn't a handgun scope work, assuming you got the distances right? I'll do some measurements and compare them to the eye relief available on various Burris scopes and post here.

I just put an Ultimak rail on my M305 and will be looking for a scout scope soon. It allows a huge area to mount anything. Was sighting it in with my EOTECH today.

Sweet!

Yeah, I got tired of waiting for someone ELSE to get one and report. :D

I just got Wolverine to order from Brownells for me. No hassle at all. Came quite quickly as well (about 3 weeks). Just send Ryan an email. Cost about $300 all in.

Would be cheaper direct, but I can't do the paperwork for gun parts over USD $100.

Nice mount, though at first I was worried because the Norc barrel seemed a little big. But one I cranked down on the screws, everything tightened into place and there is no contact with any moving parts.

So far, I have only tried my EOTECH. My next purchase will be a scout scope.

scopes are not subject to the $100 limit - unless they're "military", where different rules apply.

You're right. For some reason, I thought the Ultimak was considered a gun part, not a scope part. Thanks for the info.

Here it is with the Ultimak:

Winchester-1897, how does it compare to a standard mounted rifle scope in terms of magnification, field of view, and end/beginning of day clarity?

I have a cheapo tasco muzzleloader scope scout mounted on my model 94 Winchester. It does better than iron sights, but it no way compares to a regular over the action mounted scope.

It is pretty clear with good field of view. I generally only use the 2X magnification when hunting and I can bring it up quickly and acquire a target pretty fast. I'd say it was pretty close the a standard setup.
