I recently purchased this 1911 A1 and loved how cheap it was:dancingbanana: But before I took it to the range I knew that there was some serious work that I had to do to it in order to really enjoy this cheap handgun. So I striped it down to the nuts and bolts to clean and lubed it all up. Then I proceed to sand and polish the slide and frame guides, also the firing pin. I then purchased a 16 pound recoil spring to replace the factory one, plus :slap: on a pare of Crimson laser grip's cause the factory iron sights sucked. So now I was wondering if anyone else out there knew what else I should do to this gun to make the slide return to the same spot every time and also if there was something to stop the frame from bashing all the time? Also were in canada is there a good sight on purchasing & installing aftermarket parts that work on this cheap jobby? Don't forget I don't want this to be a race gun. Just something to learn on and have fun at the range with. So I eagerly looking forward to any input you gunnutz have and am very thankful for the advice.

You really should have posted this in the Pistols and Revolvers Section.

Perhaps a Mod in this Section can move it for you.

Hmm this could prove to be an interesting thread since I'm going to be purchasing one next time they're available.

You could use shock buffs to stop the frame and slide from slamming into each other. The shock buff is a small plastic piece that slides over the main spring guide and it does come in different thicknesses. You really don't need it but it's available.

Too late now but you should have lapped the slide and frame together with fine lapping compound instead of sanding the rails.

I say allow the topic to stay here. Hell, if you'll allow Stevens 200's to be discussed here then why not handguns? Afterall, neither of them have anything to do with a "Precision Rifle" forum.

IMO, unless I was very familiar with the type of firearm purchased. I would actually take it to the range and do some shooting to get a feel for it. Then I would decide what items I wanted to modify or change. It coulda been good to go out of the box.

You need this catalog. It will give you an idea of what is available.

I was at a 1000 yard shoot in Ohio last year and I know of a few shooters that may argue that point with you, especailly after seeing the positive result they had with their Stevens action based rifles.

You saw Stevens 200's at a 1,000 yd. shoot? Ok, I'll bite. Post a link to the club where they posted the finishing order of the competitors and the rifles they used.

I look forward to seeing just how a mass manufactured entry level hunting rifle can do against a purpose built match rifle in competition - especially at 1,000 yards.

Unless you had a dieing urge to prove a point or for sh!ts and giggles, no serious shooter worth their salt would waste their time or money in such an endeavour.

The results should, if anything, be entertaining.

My mistake, I edited my post to say they were Stevens action based rifles not just plain old Stevens factory rifles. Should have made it more clear, but hey, thanks for pointing it out. You can let your grip go now, I am sure your jaw is starting to lock up at this point.

So, they're just a custom rifle similar in performance to what other mass produced actions are capable of. Ok, I got that. Please, go ahead and post a link to the results. That is of course if you can remember just where and when this shoot took place. I think everyone here would appreciate the gesture, including myself.

My jaw is just fine now, thanks. A little sore there for a bit.

Make sure your thong is re-positioned. I hate it when that happens.
