Hey all, I am a new member so apologies in advance if I am in the wrong forum.

I just purchased my latest gem, a Tikka T3 laminated stainless .300 Win Mag, as well as a Bushnell 6500 Elite (2.5-16x 42mm Multi-X) scope (thanks for the employee discount on Remembrance Day Cabela's)!. I am holding out on the scope rings as I am looking for some advice from the resident experts here on what to buy. I am looking at ordering online as I can't get Talley or DNZ at Cabela's, which seem to be the ones to go with.

I am looking to get a single piece vice purchasing the rings and base mounts separately. I also think it will hold together and handle the recoil better. My main question is what size mount do I need? Can I get away with a medium or do I need a high mount? I have read both. I am pretty sure I can get away with medium, but before I order online and potentially throw my money away on something I can't use, I want to make sure I get the appropriate mount.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance!

I'm no resident expert but I've mounted a 58mm scope with a 3" sun shade on a sloped base using medium rings so I can't see how you'd need more than that for your setup. Go Medium.

I mounted a set of Burris Zee rings on the old Schultz 308 Norma Mag and had mixed regards
for the slight build of them.
I had them on and took them off thinking there is going to be some scope movement on them.
A bit of follow up reading and some local support and I put them back on.
The rings have held steadfast and they look awfully mighty fine on there too.
I have purchased a few more of these sleek rings for other primer poppers
in my meager collection and no problems other than they look great.

Get in touch with Richard Near. The scope mounts are as important, as the scope and the gun. Talleys etc are very good, but you will not beat Richard's product anywhere. His mounts are custom ordered all over the world, and he is in Canada, Camrose Alberta to be exact. Google up near scope mounts and you should find him. A canadian guy with a great product.

x2 !

I should ad that I purchased Near's alpha hunter, which is light weight and tough as nails, as I proved to myself. There was also zero lapping required. This is the thing I have difficulty with, is most non gunsmiths who may mount, such as wss, etc. Not knocking them but the mounts must be as close to perfect in alignment etc, as possible in order to function properly in the long run. Many people do not understand just how important the mounts are. A friend of mine once said, the scope is the brain, the rifle is the legs that run, and the mounts are the heart of all of it.

If your T3 has irons, I'd suggest quality quick detach (QD) mounts. This would be my choice:

I have two for my Tikka M55; one with a 2.5-8 variable, the other with a 4x fixed. The T3 model is similar. And yes, they keep their zero.Currently available directly from the manufacturer, or Reliable Gun can order them for you as well.
