Any good gunsmith in GTA to make a good hunting rifle from this beater? What kind of scope should I get for 8mm?

Super easy, can be done at the kitchen table with a bow saw, cold chisel and a tube of PL400. Why pay a smith to do it for you???

Also, vinegar can be used to take off the last of that gross blue finish, make all the metal bits the same colour!

Horilka you nut....I took the title seriously and after looking at the first few pics, my heart rate went up for a second. I scrolled up to see who the poster was, thinking who is this moron that's going to hack this gem up??

AND then I saw it was you and the gag was up...

Nice numbers matching survivor, thanks for sharing.

I have one of those as well. Mine is in 90% condition, inside and out.

Relatively rare rifle. Less than a decade ago these went on sale at I believe Marstar???? They went for $275 each, non matching and $300 for special select. Not many of them survived. Most had the receivers scrubbed.

I can't find much information on them though. I would suspect the Axis forces used them during WWII as they were produced in the years before Germany invaded. I haven't seen one of these "three lines" with waffenampts or other Axis acceptance stamps. They seem to be Czech rifles that were stashed away. I haven't seen any unissued rifles either with that crest. If only they could whisper just a little.

You probably mean Romanian contract vz24? They all came refurbed with crests scrubbed and force matched serials. They are great looking and probably good shooters. And very common. But hardly collectible unless you just want have a general representation of vz24 and that's all. This one has seen service in Czechoslovakia and then God's knows where (notice side swivel in the wrist removed and wooden plug inserted). This is early example with banner logo, later changed to rampant lion. Later models were not as rigorously serialized as this one, just basic parts. A lot of information can be found in "Mausers of the world" book and on gunboards forum. It took several years to find matching one. Actually I already gave up, but recently accidentally found it. Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

You had me for a moment...well played.

I'm a lover of the vz24, and it's nice to see a matching example. Congrats on the acquisition

I guess I should look into the history of mine a lot more. I just haven't seen a lot of these. I do know the Czechs sold the M24 rifles all over the world. This particular marking is what intrigues me. I like your rifle a lot. Nice find and thanks for the pics.

don’t worry about scoping it yet . you need to cut back that stock first. then sand it with 80 grit sand paper, for the true Canadian sported look. then probably put a Canadian tire recoil pad on there ( don’t bother shaping it to the stock thats to much work).
if it turns out cool I’ll let you sporter my CZ 16/33 .

Any markings on the wood at the wrist ?

Are the bolts typically blued? I didn't think they were. Possible sign a German use.

I don't see any HZa markings on the stock just a "C". Bolt bluing is very thin, similar to receiver bluing. Dunno if early bolts were blued or not, but that's a good point to check, need to research for pictures or early matching examples.

VZ33 is definitely on my "to sporterize" list :)

Jeez man! I had an ambulance on the way! :runaway:

Very nice rifle.

I recently scooped a " sporter" WZ29/40, with the WZ double-striked out and stamped 660, indicating STEYR management. Fortunately, bubba had loaned his hacksaw out and the barrel was uncut, but he did have his drill and die set, so it is buggered.

I also scrounged an SVW MB a couple of years back and had a period correct laminate stock for it.

Your rifle is a real gem, especially with so many numbers.

Now, who pays for the ambulance dry run?:p
