If I were hunting in an area with the ranges you see in Alberta, yes, I'd do the same.
But I hunt where the shots are more likely to be fifty feet, and 100 yards as a sight in does me fine.
When I started off, I sighted in 2" high at 100 yards. But I found that many of my shots were very close, and I was snap shooting, that is, shooting very quickly. When a hunter, at least ME, shoots quickly, he tends to shoot high, having the gun already shooting a bit high, just magnifies that error.
It's nothing to do with the sights, and my scoped rifle is sighted the same way for deer.
