I have a new Model 70 Supergrade in .270 win. I just ordered a custom Mcmillan supergrade stock for it. I got aluminum pillars as one of the extras. Its got a factory barrel. Should I get this stock bedded? If I do how much weight is this going to add? Its a hunting gun. Anything I should have done to this gun while the stock is being mounted? Optics and mount are already taken care of.

They say you don't need to bed them, but I usually do. The sako's need to have the recoil lugs bedded, but rems and wins should be ok if there is no play when the action is seated. Sometimes there is extra room around the recoil lugs, from the cnc machining.

I have shot my Ruger with the new stock not bedded and still shoots about MOA, which is good enough for me. No play when gun seated into the stock. I don't plan on bedding mine, shoots and fits fine. I was told not to bother unless I was experiencing accuracy issues.

how is the fit and finish on them? I have heard some say they are ok, some say they need alittle bit of wet sanding?

Mine looks pretty good. I would not be to happy if I had to do any sanding on a $500 stock, should be a drop in and go set-up. Bed them if you need to.
Just my opinion, but I have only had 3 McMillans so I'm not an expert on them.

I would skip the pillars, and have them done when you have it bedded. A proper pillar job should be done at the time that it is bedded. I recommend that you have the recoil lug and the tang bedded on a Winchester, and have it done properly. Bill Leeper jumps to mind, and I am sure Dennis Sorensen could do it very well too.
Great choice all round. Three of my favorites.

I already ordered the pillars it was like an extra $20 or something.

no idea yet, why are you interested in it? Its brand new, never used or shot.

I have 2 Fn mod 70 in Mcmillan stock and non of them are bed.The 22-250 group between 5/8-3/4 group with the ammo it likes and the 300 win mag group under and inch so im leaving them like that(althought it never hurt to bed a rifle)As for the finish the one thats paint look very good but the mcswirly show a bit of imperfection.
