Finally acquired my Lee Anniversary reloading kit. Have my primers, brass and 150g. bullets. :dancingbanana:

Question now is what would you fine folks who are reloading the same recommend for powder and load? I shoot an m305 for fun with optics, 100 yd. max on the range.

Cheers.

for my m14 i use hodgens blc2 it was made for the 308 (it is a 7.62nato powder)and has low muzzle flash go 2 grains over min load and you wont beat up your gun either(caseings only go about 6 feet away). try the cci primers they have a harder cup so the chance of a slam fire is reduced

I've been using H-335 with 150 gr SP bullets with great results. I can't remember the grain wieght I use, but I can check my notes if you're interested.

edit- 43 grs. of H-335

Work up your loads. Particularly important so you don't have slam-fires or FTL/FTF/FTE with a semi.

Cheers, that's pretty much the exact setup I started reloading with. :dancingbanana:

I use IMR 4895 for my 308; start at 42gr and work up. If you're just shooting for fun, and your rifle likes 42gr, then feel free to stay there. BL-C2 seems a very good powder for this caliber as well.

My guess is that Varget is probably the most commonly used powder in bolt actions by shooters looking for accuracy.

i have been told that 4895 mimics the powder that was used by the army for their M14's. Currently I am using a light load in 4320

IMR 4895, IMR 4064, Hodgdon BLC2, H4895, Win 748 are all powders suitable for your M14, and reloading data can be found free for them at the Hodgdon reloading data site.

Your loads need to be for a 150gr bullet "in the M14", not just generally "for the 308". I think that Varget will be found to be a bit too slow for the M14 - certainly anything slower than it would be. Slow powders will "work", but aren't compatible with the gas system and can cause too vigorous cycling. There are many articles on loading for the M14 (M-305, etc.), and specifically for 150gr bullets (my preference). Here's a good one from close to home:

my recipe

win 748 is also a good powder for the m14/m305 with 150g

My M305 really likes the Win 748 powder as well. I use Sierra 150 gr SPT, 46.2 gr. Win 748 and CCI primers.

I have also been resizing casing with extra .011" on die (still trimming neck) to account for the case stretching (NATO headspace). Shooting until I notice severe case stressing. Have not seen it yet due to rain but will post results.
