I have a nice little Anschutz 1433 fullstock carbine .22 Hornet that currently wears a Leupold VXII 2-7x28. The scope is the correct size and power, but I'd like to upgrade the scope to better optical quality.
My criteria:
- Small and light to match the little rifle.
- No more than 3x magnification on the low end, no more than 10x on the high end. 2-7 or 2.5-8x would be ideal. 3-9x acceptable.
- no exposed twisty turrets, all turrets low profile
- decent low light performance ( I know I will need to compromise with small scopes)
- quick focus eyepiece
- Simple reticle, duplex or German #4
Of the scopes I presently own, and have mounted on other rifles, a Kahles Helia 2-7x36 would fit my needs perfectly, or a Zeiss Conquest 2.5-8x32. But both are discontinued models.
It seems that such small, low power variables are not selling well these days and manufacturers are catering to the long range turret twisting crowd or making scopes for AR rifles. Any suggestions for me??

I have a sweet little Bushnell Elite 3500 2-7x32 on my primary stalking rifle. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Great glass and tough! Japanese made. Look around, you might find a lightly used one. I know, I know... but it's better than my Leupy's in a similar size.

Kurgan, thanks for that. I wish those Bushnells were still available. Hmmm, Kelly, thanks for the suggestion, I guess, but you're suggesting a lower quality version of the Leupold scope I already have, and another Burris scope that is designed for forward mounting on a scout rifle with extra long eye relief, and without quick focus eyepiece.
Any other suggestions that meet my criteria?

Check-out Prophet River. All their remaining Nikon inventory are on clearance. Nikon glass is as a good or better than Bushnell, and much better value than Leupold. They have quite a few remaining Prostaff's. Perhaps there's a scope suitable for your needs there?

Yes, the Swarovski Z3 3x9x36 would be superb. I bought the Bushnell Kurgan suggested, and will give it a fair try. But that Swarovski would probably be worth the extra money ( three times the price of the Bushnell ) if I used the rifle more.

What a coincidence... I just picked one of those up at Switzers auction and put it on my .223.

Those jap Bushnell's are real gems. You would have to spend double or triple to improve upon the glass. They seem to take quite a bit of abuse too. Yes, Swarovski is fantastic. $$$
