Advice wanted on NON permanently dulling a rifles finish

I am wondering what other hunters have used to temporarily dull a hunting rifles finish?
I like the look of my Winchester featherweight, but when the sun comes out it is like carrying a mirror, and you can't always be hiding in the shade.
I have considered temporarily covering it with black hockey tape, and then often removing the tape so the residue doesn't become permanent, but am not sure if this will affect the gloss finish on the stock, or allow rusting if left on for too long? would the extra weight of the tape on the barrel affect the harmonic vibrations affecting accuracy?
Does anybody out there have any time tested solutions, any advice on what they have tried, or which removable camo type covering is the best?
Thanks. Elkrusto

Cerakote it perhaps. I think it’s a bit pricy and ive never done it but they look nice and it can dull the shine with the benefit of a layer of protection

I find good old floor paste wax puts on a dull matte on the bluing, if you don't take it off. take a small container with to re apply as it wears. repells water.

There is a camo colored stick on tape available that you can apply to the rifle and it is easily removed with no damage to the gun.
I can't remember what it is called, but I think I seen it available at Walmart.

Plasti-Dip paint - looks like the Duplicolor listed above is similar. It's basically spray on rubber. Flat black would be good.

That would be a great idea if it strips off cleanly

I use a cheese cloth wrap in the winter and well dried spray painted cheese cloth in various colors to match where ill be hunting. Very light. Doesnt effect accuracy. Doesnt hurt the finish. Can cover the scope as well. I love my custom 458 but its very highly glossed bluing with a gloss scope.

I used white hockey tape to winter camo a yote rifle a few years ago. Worked well but I left it on over summer and it absorbed moisture. When the tape was removed the bluing was spotted from rust.

Cut a piece of burlap to size. Wrap around barrel and any other part securing with velro strips or even string. Goes on and off in seconds and won't affect the finish.

As mentioned above, vet wrap or camo tape/wrap. Boyd's stock is another option. Bit annoying to switch back and forth but choice is there.
