i got approved to upgrade my PAL to restricted and i'm wating for my license to show up in the mail (i guess there printer is still broken...lol). because of this delay i've had to much time to think about wich handgun i want to get or where to get it from. here are the options i was thinking about.
1. really want i p226 but fiance won't let me spend the money for a new one. so i thought of getting a used one from wild west shooting center or CGN's
does anyone think getting one from wild west is a bad idea?
2. get a XD9 new
3. get a glock new or used
i really want to get a handgun right as soon as my license comes to piss of the liberals.
any other suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
on top of that my buddy score a h&K P8 used for $700 so i need one to keep up with him.
thanks

It may be only a personal preference, others would probably say otherwise (and some will), but I'd say that the Sig226 is your best bet among the guns you listed in your 'interest' list. But this may be because I'm not a big fan off plastic-framed guns, altough they have nothing wrong, I just prefer plain old-school metal (aluminium framed in this case).

All three are available in 9mm, which is a good choice if you're on a budget right now. You can easily score 9mm at 8-9$ per box.

P.S. Buy a new SIG and let her know that's a refurbished one ;)

eg23, I am a big guy and I am also big on Glocks. Why? I can't remember a single bobble with any of mine. Do I have more than one? Yes, I have a G19, G21, G23, G27, and G30. These have all been 100% reliable and they are also accurate. I am a minority in that I feel Sigs, as a line, are over rated and the only Sig I am nuts over is the P228. Do I own others? Yes, I have a P226 (too big), P230, P239, and P245. Lastly, I held my P220 (45acp) in such low esteem that I sold it for $375 (US). Regards, Richard :D

eg23, your best bet is to try them first. I agree with Richardoldfield on Sigs (I have very little time for them), but that's just me. Every person will find a certain gun that "works" for them. Go out and try them, or atleast handle them in a shop.
How "pointable" is it for you, how does it fit your hand, etc. All the guns you listed are very reliable, so the rest is a personal choice.
If you're near Fredericton let me know and I can at least let you try a Glock.

thanks

thanks for the info you have provided me so far. i've been lucky enough to have gone to wild west to shoot a hole bunch of guns on a family trip that we made last summer. i was able to shoot the glock and the sig. i even have to say i shoot both of them very well and liked the feel of both of them. the xd i've never shoot but from what i've read the handle much like a glock if not better. i live up in northan manitoba so i have a great shooting range at my disposal and buddy that loves to waste ammo as much as i do so i want something that will be reliable and eat up alot of rounds. no one has said anything about buying a used gun from wild west, is this a bad idea?
thanks

One of the advantages of the probationary periods for clubs is that you can request and be given the opportunity to try out the various guns owned by members present and thereby have the opportunity to evaluate these guns under fire instead of relying on looks or an opinion which boils down to 'this is what I use so it's the best'.

In my club we encourage people to try before they buy.

When choosing a pistol I shot just about everything I could get my hands on.

I ended up going with a glock 17, just because thats the pistol I feel most comfortable with.

To be honest with you though, I can shoot the XD 9 much better then my glock. The only thing that stopped me from choosing it over my 17 is the fact it felt like crap in my hands (not the quality of the firearm, it just did not work for me).

personally, I think the sigs are a little too pricey. That has been the only thing that has stopped me from purchasing one.

Used guns are not a bad idea just make sure you understand how much they have been used before you buy them cause it could be a range gun that went throught thousands of rounds but i would go with the xd9 if i where you
