Advice

Just for the limited experience I have had with them I have always found the 20ga, 28ga and 410 express seem to work just fine and if you are going to have problems it will be normally with a 12ga especially the later made ones. Guys that have the 16ga in express I know which is just a few never an issue either
I have both a 28ga and a 410 express and although I have to keep a close eye on them with the finish for rusting they have never causes one minute trouble and shoulder well and go bang as they should
Cheers

I can't dispute the finish point, the express matte parkerized finish is neither pretty nor is it completely functional. My 20G has a nice scratch on it and the stock is dented up from use. That being said, I have not seen any rust form on it and I am not especially careful with this shotgun as it is a truck gun. I typically only oil it at the end of the season and at the beginning. It is one of the few guns in my collection that I look at almost like an axe, hammer, etc.

I think our locations have a lot to do with it also. I am in the rust belt here right next to the ocean and the salt air
You guys are still driving cars out there rust free that I have not seen in 20 years down this way
Cheers

I guess there needs to be a silver lining living out here. We don't have cheap lobsters...

Fwiw, Remington is now offering cerakote express models priced between an express and a wing master. As far as finish goes, it's a decent compromise for the budget minded.

My biggest gripe on the expresses is that the vent ribs are often installed canted, off center, or crooked. It doesn't affect function but is an unwelcome annoyance.

I have put express barrels onto many Wingmaster receivers since the tactical builders have been selling a glut of 28"VR express barrels for under $150 all over the place. You get most of a Wingmaster with interchangeable chokes. Convert the receiver to 3" and it's a nice gun. The finish won't match, but if refinishing anyway, that's not a big deal.

Well that's a first.

Hardly. Nobody in my shooting circles likes the mossy safety. No shotgun shooting positions have a thumb up on the top of the receiver. None.

IMHO the safety is what takes Mossberg totally out of the running when I recommend a shotgun to anyone who has to snap shoot at birds or does Clays or trap. Ergonomically a FAIL.

Not all tang safeties are bad, but the Mossberg one is horribly situated. Never mind mounting a PG stock...
