advise on my sks

so the other day i noticed a small line of corrosion on my cabinet floor liner
i sourced it back to my sks stock butt plate the paint or whatever is on it has worn on a edge
i shudder to touch this rifle and change anything but i guess i have to repaint the end plate
whats the best way to do this

I take it this is a russian bbq rifle? Hard to believe the bbq paint would come off the buttplate. Thats some quicked tough stuff.

try simple green to remove rust.. or 0000 grade extra fine steel wool and buff it out?

0000 Steel wool should do the trick.

Sounds to me like bbq paint off the buttplate.... not rust or corrosion.
