Affordable coach gun options

Hey folks,

Getting back into shooting after a long hiatus. Have an 870, but I’ve always wanted a coach gun. Missed a few opportunities at Stevens 311s over the years. Looking at a stoeger now, just curious if there’s anything else in the sub $999 range I should consider.

And any opinions on single vs double trigger?

Personally, I would go single trigger, its just easier but not terrible to have double triggers. I really dislike external hammers which can easily catch on whatever ... So single trigger, internal hammers is my preference. If you are using it for hunting, I would get a gun with interchangeable chokes, not single fixed chokes. Also I would go with a longer vs a super shot barrel. And finally be sure it has a functional length of pull.
 
Intersurplus plus hacksaw and file. For a cheap solidly built gun that won't die I'd look at the baikal ij58. Many dealers have stock but Intersurplus has likely the largest selection. Cut squarely at what ever length you enjoy. Prices range from $269-369 and they are much better than a stoeger. If you desire removable choke tubes the stoeger would be the cheapest option. Next I'd look at the huglu coach hammer guns. Fantastic gun for the money
Tactical imports curry's the sulun shortys if that is more in line with your desires

Churchill also offers a short barreled sxs but I have not used one as I prefer double triggers on my sxs guns
 
It boils down to personal preference but, in inexpensive double barreled coach guns like the Stoeger, Stevens, etc., double triggers tend to be a simpler and more reliable option.
 
If you're happy with cylinder bore, then there are a few sponsors converting old Euro doubles into coach guns for pretty cheap. Frontier Firearms was one of em.

If I wanted a cylinder bore gun I'd go the hacksaw route though.
