I tried searching the forum with no luck ...

I have no plans on going out a buying magpul videos so hopefully you folks can answer my question:

Is there a real difference between the AFG and RVG or does it all come down to personal preference?

I have both and find the RVG more comfortable than the AFG but it seems like everyone and their dog is now sporting the AFG so I'm wondering if I've missed something here.

I like both for different applications. I put an afg-2 on my cz858 because the rvg would interfere in mag changes. They are mostly a personal prefference I guess.

I've got the RVG on my AR and an AFG on my shotty, I think it all comes down to ergonomics and personal preferences... I found with where I hold my AR tends to be fairly close to the mag-well... Though not quite a mag-well grip, I found that the RVG was better suited for that. On my shotty since I'm a little more extended I found the AFG to be better suited for that. However, I plan on switching the AFG for their new XTM grip panels, when they release this spring, the angle on the AFG was a little too high for personal liking.

Now also, keep in mind, that with the RVG I don,t hold it like a tennis racket, my hand just rests on it and my thumb wraps over the top.

I find the AFG much more comfortable on longer rails. On a carbine length handguard/rail the RVG feels better.

Do we really need to start a topic for this type of stuff?

Get off your high horse. The guy had a question pertaining to black rifles/parts thereof, so he asked it in the appropriate forum.

To the OP, I have had both on my ARs and I think it really does come down to personal preference on the particular rifle/carbine you are running. Try them both and decide which you like better, then decide which you will stick with.

I'm not a fan of how far down my hand is pushed by the AFG, so I prefer hand stop styled grips and mounts.

The new Magpul handstop kit will be a winner. You can configure it any way you like....

say's the guy who once started a thread on whether anyone here had watched the premier of the new hit tv series "cougars".......

Hot older women are of very legitimate concern, and it was posted in the appropriate section.

Fact is this question or something similar is asked half a dozen times a month on CGN alone, can people not google or use the forums search function and decide for themselves? We've seen everything on this forum, people using AFG and VFG's as flashy tacticoolness and not for their function or how they are in theory designed. Why do people sick a AFG or VFG on and then shoot with a magwell grip, or stick the AFG or VFG right next to the magwell and not out an extended on the rail system. We've also seen a few people put both an AFG and VFG on a rail system behind each other.

Shall I pick the OP's voting preference as well? Conservative or Liberal?

For questions like these perhaps a pinned topic in this section would help create better responses and not clutter the Forum, so we don't have 10 "Why LMT>STAG>Norinco?" threads.

Why is the such a degree of uncertainty and requirement for reassurance on this forum. Half the threads here are with regards to should I buy this gun A or gun B.

Or how many threads are where can I buy LAR mags, where can I buy PMAGS, who sells 7.62x39 AR mags.

The answer is simple. Most want to look cool, and most have not and will not seek professional training. Couple either of those realities with an undefined role/direction for their guns and you get the majority of CGN thread topics.

I don't know about that, I think most guys are here communicating with one another over legitimate topics and perhaps don't have the time to read all the other AR-related threads in order to get some feedback on grip choices specifically.
I'll bet they're pleased to be here too :)

:agree:
AFG for CZ/AK rock & lock magazine platforms
RVG for AR15 and all other push button drop free platforms.

As I wrote in my original post, I tried to query the search tool but "avg vs. rvg" only gave two posts that were off topic. Also, I didn't post this to find out what each CGNer is using to help me choose. I have both and have a preference that I decided on by trying them out.

My question should have been more specific. I have no tactical (or whatever else you want to call it) training and I'm sure there are some CGNers who do. I was wondering if there are any specific reasons to go AFG vs RVG eg: maybe one allows a shooter to be faster on target, or maybe one has been shown to reduce a shooters arm fatigue etc.

Hope this clarifies things and keeps the thread from turning nasty.

It's great that you searched, at least you made some effort. Here's a video dating back to 2010 SHOT Show describing the theory behind the AFG.
