Afghanistan follow-up

That is very interesting. I watched a documentary not to long ago which had a reporter actually follow a group of Taliban in Afghanistan, and it showed them literally digging up rifles and ammunition up out of the ground, which they had hid after the Soviets left. They didn't look like they were in very good shape, I don't think the Afghanis know about cosmoline/oil preservatives, lol. But nonetheless they are still effective at short ranges. Their war will not be won by rifle fire, but by IED's... and it's working. The Yanks will probably be there for another ten years, lose another few thousand young men, and leave the country destabilized like they did back in the 80's.

The Taliban does not have support from the CIA like it did back then, but they now have large supporters in the Mid-East which have taken their place. Their is absolutely no way they will win in a conventional sense, the Yanks would destroy them, but their Viet Cong style tactics will bleed the Americans just like what happened in Vietnam. It's a losing war, and I'm glad Canada is getting out of it now.

You never know. Alot of those old Enfields sitting about in prime shape are bring backs by the vets of the wars, because to them, it was a tool to keep them alive. At least, so some vets of Korea, Nam, and Iraq tell me.

I once read from the Korean War, that it the the took as much as up to 200.000 fired round, to actually kill one person ?

Also with the sophisticated infrared imagery, mounted on airborne units/targeting sytems, and only available to NATO forces, it is important for the Taliban to fire as many rounds as possible, before retreating to safety, since the hot AK barrels will give their positions away ?

I am kinda sceptical about the American news media :( I think the Taliban was doing not that bad against the Soviets even before the CIA got into it. I don't think their that stupid. But then again. ;)

I remember that during the Falklands War, that the media reported that many of the bombs that hit the british ships, did not explode, whereafter the Agentinian Air Force simply changed their bomb fused to more sensitive ones that did exploded when they hit a british ship....

Now the media ar telling the Taliban to improve their markmanship...

their rifles and marksmanship are most effective when used against a hogtied civilian target at point blank range.
