CGN Members and F Class Competitors

In spite of the challenges of conducting matches under all the strict guidelines of COVID-19 rules for gatherings, the Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association enjoyed a very successful season with only 1 weather cancellation affecting our planned schedule.

We had to have pre-registration for every match and as of today, we do not know if that will be lifted or to be continued for the 2021 season. All matches and preregistration requirements will be on this thread next season a week to 10 days before every match.

The 2021 schedule is attached but course of fire will not be determined until April 2021. Also, due to 2 meter spacing in effect, course of fire can be modified based on number of shooters registered.

Should you have any questions on the schedule or would like a 2021 membership application package, please contact afratargetshooters@gmail.com

To all guest who showed up, thank you for helping us make a great club.

Hope to see lots of you all in 2021!

Best regards,

AFRA Match Committee

why don’t you post the prices here so folks know the cost

is there still a fee for re-joining if you have not been a member for a year or two and wish to rejoin,

and if so what is that cost?

To all AFRA members and Quests:

As it stands now, we should have a 2021 shooting season. There is a great deal of uncertainty about what rules will be in place for the season. I have no idea what the rules will be. For this reason about a week before we start shooting the executive will put together an action plan and disseminate the plan with regard to the rules that are in place at the time. There is no other way to do this, so please be patient. The Executive is committed to do all it can to make the year a success. We have topped 100 members for the year.

AFRA President

Hi Excel,

Will they be putting a cap on registered entrants possibly?

Just curious as I’m working on Maynard and JimmyJazz to come out to our Provincials as competitions in Ontario aren’t looking to promising for them.

AFRA May 1st & 2nd Season Opener Match Cancelled

To - AFRA Members and Welcomed Guests:

Members of the AFRA executive visited the range this week and the road to the target butts still has too much snow to access the targets.# The forecast is for even more snow over the coming days.# For this reason the May 1/2 match will be cancelled.#

The next scheduled match is May 22/23.# Emails to members and posts on CGN will provide details once we get closer.

With Covid regulations changing daily, when we are a week away from the next match we will advise if there are any restrictions for maximum number of competitors.

All matches will be by pre-registration only.

Best regards

AFRA Match Director

Curious I’d that first match is the combined distances matches, short and long range, or are we skipping right to the 800/900 meter shoots that May 22/23 weekend? Thank you.

AFRA May 22 & 23, 2021 Match

To all our friends and welcomed guests of the AFRA F-Class Matches:

Currently the Alberta Government has strict restrictions for outdoor gathering sizes that includes our matches. With these restrictions, we unfortunately must limit this next match for members only. We do not see these restrictions changing before the May 22 & 23 match.

Out of respect to those guests who often travel long distances to our club, we wanted you all to know well ahead before you started making your travel plans.

This unfortunate condition will remain in effect until the restrictions are relaxed. As soon as this occurs, we will post and email again and advise that guests can register and compete. All matches this year are again by pre-registration only which will start approximately 2 weeks before each match.

Should you wish to join AFRA, please email afratargetshooters@gmail.com for a membership application package or any questions on becoming a member. Being a member is the only path to allow people to compete for now.

Please share this post/email with any competitors you think need to see it.

We look forward to the restrictions being relaxed and welcoming you back as soon as possible.

Best regards,
AFRA Match Committee

AFRA - May 22 & 23, 2021 Match Cancellation

To all AFRA Members and THOSE GUESTS WHO WERE CONSIDERING JOINING THE AFRA BEFORE THE NEXT MATCH:

Due to the announcement from our Provincial Government on the evening of May 4th severely limiting the number of people in a group, the executive of the club has no choice but to cancel the next match scheduled for May 22 & 23, 2021.

These restrictions are in place for 3 weeks. At that time, new rules will be announced and the executive will determine the course of action for the next match after that in June. We trust that if the restrictions are eased back to what they were prior to May 4, we can continue having matches for our members.

Thank you for your understanding.

AFRA Match Committee

To all AFRA Members

Please forward this to anyone you know who is interested in trying this out. On most years, members often bring friends and let them use their equipment to try this out.

This will be the only event open to non-members for now. Depending upon response, we will sort out a way to make it work with the current Covid restrictions.

Best regards

AFRA Match Committee

July 10 & 11 Welcome To Summer AFRA Match

As of July 1 the Covid Regulations for Public Gatherings in Alberta will be lifted. Now we can welcome back our many friends who are not members but in the past have enjoyed our matches and have been supporters of the AFRA.

Our next match is July 10 & 11. With Covid, we went to a Pre-Registration only system that we will continue with going forward. Tuesday’s 2000 hours (8:00 pm) will be our firm deadline for registering by email to afratargetshooters@gmail.com. You can only register for yourself, not for a group of fellow shooters. Our great club has had unprecedented attendance over the past 2 years. We have expanded to 10 Electronic targets but have been limited by the legal rules of attendance and 2 meter social distancing.

We plan to accept the first 54 restistrated shooters for this match based on time stamp of email to afratargetshooters@gmail.com. We will advise by Thursday morning if you have made the deadline and limit. On Thursday evening we will email the squadding and confirm if the weather will allow us to go.

Originally, this match was scheduled to be 700, 800, and 900. Depending upon the turnout, this may be changed to allow the AFRA to squad and manage the event in a pleasant and timely manner. Plan on at least 120 rounds of ammunition.

To our members, we appreciate the commitment to the club during the Covid lockdown. To our many friends we have missed for the past 1.5 years, we welcome you back.

Course of fire is INTENDED to be 2+15 twice at 700M and 2+15 twice at 800M on Saturday. Sunday is INTENDED to be 2+15 twice at 800M and 2+15 at 900M. This is subject to change depending upon the number of shooters. Plan on 138 rounds and some extras in the event of a cease fire or electronic target glitch.

August 21 & 22 Match at AFRA Range At 700, 800, and 900 Metres

The Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association is pleased to open registration for the August 21 & 22 Long Distance Match at our Homestead AFRA Range. Each shooter can only register for themselves and not a group.

Please indicate the class TR, F-TR, or F-OPEN and the days shooting on your reply as score cards are completed based on this information.

The intent is to shoot a minimum of 69 rounds on Saturday and 69 rounds on Sunday. Please bring extras in case there are weather delays or target issues.

There will be some combinations of 2+15 FOUR times each day. The Match Committee can only determine the course of fire after we close registration to correlate the number of shooters to the firing lines. It will be some combination of 700, 800, and 900 m. The Match Committee can change this based upon weather and number of shooters.

All electronic targets. We will do our best to meet special requests for squadding. Those shooting both days will get preference. For those shooting 1 day only we will do our best to meet special requests but no guarantees. One day only shooters will fill in open spots if available.

Registration closes 2200 HRS or 8:00 pm sharp on Tuesday August 17, 2021. No exceptions.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS ONLY AVAILABLE UP TO THE TUESDAY BEFORE ANY MATCH. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED.

This match is open to the first 56 competitors that email or reply to afratargetshooters@gmail.com

On Tuesday evening August 17 you will receive an acknowledgement of your registration.

On Thursday Aug 19 you will get the squadding, final course of fire based upon registrations, and a “GO/NO GO” for weather for those travelling.

The overwhelming response this year is great. Come on out.

AFRA extends a big thank you to all of our shooters including our travelling shooters. This just makes matches more fun.

September 10, 11, & 12 AFRA Provincial Championships: 200 rounds Minimum For 3 Days.

Registration for the Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association Provincial Championship is now open. The first 54 shooters will be accepted. Registration closes 8:00 pm on Monday September 6th or once 54 shooters have signed up based upon time stamp of the email. Please note that you can only register for yourself and not as a group. Corrections can be requested until 8:00 pm Tuesday September 7th. Please indicate TR, FTR, or F-Open. We will do our best to accommodate special request for those travelling together but cannot guarantee.

Wednesday September 8th, all details will be sent to registered competitors.

Please note that because this is the premier match of the AFRA season, there are only 2 options: all 3 days to register OR only the 2 day Provincial Championship (Saturday and Sunday). Unfortunately for this match only, we cannot accept Saturday or Sunday “only” shooters.

All registrations to afratargetshooters@gmail.com only as this is our single point of contact.

Friday is traditionally the Lt. Governors match (300, 600 & 900 meters). The 300 and 600 will require 3 relays (assuming we are in the mid 40's or above). The final at 900 will have 2 relays. This should not cause too much of a problem as we have dropped a range.

NOTE: Friday is a separate match. It does not count towards the Provincial Championships which are Saturday and Sunday.

For Saturday and Sunday, the course of fire will be from 300 to 900m. Squadding of relays and ranges will depend upon the number of registered shooters.

With the outstanding turnout we have had this year, the course of fire can only be determined after we close registration.

Please follow our instructions on parking and moving to firing points.

Plan on 45+6 on Friday and 60+8 each on Saturday and Sunday. This is subject to change once registration is closed. We are using all electronic targets so don’t forget to bring you tablets, iphones or laptop computers!

For our guests traveling, we will assist in advising on hotels (Cochrane or Canmore are the closest options) or camping spots upon request. For members, please shine up your RSO cards as you will be voluntold which days you are running the line and organizing traffic movement.

The AFRA wants to thank all our members and guests that have contributed to our sport helping us grow during these unique times.

Best regards,

AFRA Match Committee
