AFRA Fullbore Match - April 28 & 29 - Homestead Season Opener

Saturday - 2+10 at 300m, 2+10 at 400m, 2+15 at 500m & 2+15 at 600m
Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

Registration 8-8:30am, first relay shooting by 9am (please be early for set-up). Hope to see you there.

Access to the 300m targets might not be possible (still a lot of snow on that side of the range), so that distance will likely be changed to another. All other target positions accessible.

Is this shooting competition open to the general public?

Yes it is! It is open to anyone wanting to shoot long range. You can shoot just one day or both if you like. No club membership is required, but you must have an APRA membership for insurance purposes. This can be purchased Saturday morning at the range.

Is this shooting competition open to the general public?

Generally we'll try to pair up experienced competitors with new competitors for the first few matches, to show them the ropes of fullbore shooting, scoring, target scoring, etc.

Insurance is getting tighter, so Provincial Rifle Association memberships are required (there used to be a grace visit, but that appears to be gone and a paid single use 'guest' pass may replace it, details still to be determined).

There have been a few times where we've had sufficient numbers to have separate 'factory' class awards in the last two years (they've even out numbered the F-TR class a couple of times). Hope to see you there Mike.

Sweet! I should be able to make it, though I won't have much of a load worked up. I haven't been to the range with the new rifle yet haha I'll try to get a 100m zero and a quick load development tomorrow or thurs. and we'll go from there. Any chance I can purchase a APRA and AFRA membership at the same time since I plan on making it out regularily/every weekend?

Depending on your load and zero, most of us can help you with the come-ups between distances, enuf to get on target for your sighters. APRA/AFRA membership can be purchased at the match and a 'shoot card' for the year (so you don't have to pay fees at each match - it's a discount to simplify the administrative burden)(available at the first weekend match only).

We do have an association 'provisional' aspect, in that keys are issued to those that demonstrate that they are regular competitors and this may take you 6-8 months. This allows the AFRA the opportunity to view the member's ability to shoot safely, their commitment to competition/association, etc., as part of a due diligence review.

Anybody planning to head out to the range on Fri. I'm planning to attend the opener this weekend but sure would like to shoot the cobwebs out of my rifle before hand.

There will probably be some guys out to shoot on friday for a little practise. although that will depend on the weather. It's kind of looking like rain for Friday. We'll just have to wait and see.
Cheers

Due to poor weather forecasts, the AFRA has cancelled this match. Too much risk of snow/rain to make people travel out to Homestead and find out that the match has been cancelled.

On a personal note, it's interesting to see the snow come down the valley from the north and totally obscure the targets in a 10 minute period (interesting if you're the RO, not so interesting if you're laying on the line trying to find the target).

That's too bad but not surprising to hear. I was planning to shoot but just had my appendix taken out so wasn't going to be able to attend anyway. Looks like I may get a second chance. Any discussion about rescheduling the opener?

No reschedule - we'll just go to the next match in May (12th and 13th if I remember correctly). Hope you're healed up in time.

Just a note to those that were planning on shooting the match this weekend. A number of us are still planning on shooting for practise. In fact, if it isn't raining you can show up at 9:00am for a fully structured shoot. As well, if enough guys show up we will run the match as schedualed. Fair weather competitors need not show up!!
Cheers

Too bad it's cancelled, but if non-members are still able to show up to practice, I'll definitely be there.

Like i said, if enough guys show up we will still run the match. As far as i know we have 7 guys confirmed for tomorrow and possibly many more. Non members are welcome to shoot the match, BUT you must have APRA membership with you. And at this time nobody will be there to sell APRA memberships.

Well as it turned out, the weather was fantastic today. The match did go on with 13 people shooting F-Class. Lots of sunshine and very little wind. For those that still want to shoot, tomorrow will be the long range portion of this match.
Cheers
