Finally got around to talking about hunting with a guitar player in the band I'm in.
His father was a highways engineer putting in roads in Tanzania in the 1960s and early 1970s. He said he started driving Land Rovers around the age of 10 in Africa and hunted guinea fowl and other birds with a .22 and shot antelope and warthogs with his 6.5x54 Mannlicher–Schönauer.
He said it was a little bit of a humbling feeling to be hunting birds in the African bush with a .22 and encountering a Cape Buffalo.
He doesn't hunt any more, but it's nice to be in a band with a guy that has hunted in his life. Another band member is a hard-core fisherman so he totally understands when I say I won't be making some rehearsals due to hunting season. Haven't had the pleasure of that before either. The fiddler and keyboard player are cool with it too.
