The following collection of clips isn't very good quality wise - I'm not much of a editor, there is even an extra gun shot I can't get rid of. Anyway, this was taken on the day we got to the hunting camp in the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania. Mark Sullivan was our PH, and as you will see in the clips, there is a new camera man he's breaking in. It's my first chance to shoot the .500 Nitro Express John Wilkes DR, and the first clip is with the other client sighting in his .375 for comparison. I hope you enjoy the clip.

Clicking on the blue square should make it work.

Wowza! You've earned your moniker of "Boomer" now! There's some serious drooling happening at this computer.

I can say this because I wasn't the one shooting, but the .500 recoil looks more like a big push rather than a jack-hammer. I can't remember from your previous posts- is the DR yours or Mark's?

:) Stuart

The DR belongs to Mark Sullivan, I didn't take my 602 because I didn't learn about the forms for transiting the US with a firearm in time to get everything in place before we left. That was a big disappointment as I had been working on that rifle, and working up loads for several years. Still I made up my mind that was not going to spoil the trip, and had a wonderful time never the less.

The load for the .500 was 89 grs of IMR-3031 behind a 570 gr X bullet. Velocity was supposed to be 2100 fps, but I don't know if that was instrument velocity or calculated.

The last shot I harped both triggers, and both shots went off sounding like one. The recoil didn't feel any different, but I think the muzzle climbed a bit higher.

Nicely done Boomer. Mark is quite a character. You must have had a riot. How many times did he say "steady...steady....."

Amost as many times as he said, "We're looking at him, he's looking at us . . . that's just how it is out here in the bush!":runaway:
