With all the negativity of late regarding the importation of African Big 5 trophies into Canada just wanted to pass on my latest experience. While in South Africa May 2014 I was fortunate enough to take a lioness in the Kalahari and a bull crocodile in the northern province and some plains game in the Eastern Cape. Had the taxidermy done in South Africa - completed August 2015 - shipment finally arrived at my door on October 19. The delay in shipping was attributed to a typo on the permit for my lioness which was finally corrected - stuff happens. The only minor inconvenience was that I was hoping to have the crates air freighted to Edmonton as I live within 25 minutes of the airport - closest they could get was Calgary. Incurred some additional costs to get the crates trucked out of Calgary to home - cheaper than me taking a day off work and renting a cargo trailer for my truck. No problems with red tape on the South African or Canadian side. FYI all the crates are routed through Europe first and then shipped to Canada on primarily on foreign carriers.

DH, Good to hear all went well, permit issues tend to be common in RSA. I have shipped three times from RSA to Canada and always go through Europe to avoid the US FWS, which seems to be where most of the problems occur for Canadians. Did you post any pics of the hunt previously?

Funny I posted half my pictures in June 2014 and somehow they were recycled through the forum again in May 2015. This triggered inquires from some members on African hunting so I posted the rest of my pictures in May they have now all been removed from the forum. Had lunch with Metric Man (never met the guy before) in Edmonton after seeing my pictures in June to talk about African hunting - he booked a safari with his 2 sons (in their twenties) for 2016 and he is pumped for sure. Hoping to take my now 11 year old son with me to SA or Namibia one day.

Posting on You Tube - response could go either way. Avoiding comments from the tree hugging types who criticize hunting and yet have meat in their grocery cart go figure. I have eaten a selection of the African game - all the venison is very good - some better than others subject to personal preference.

I've eaten all sorts of things over there too. Fairly well demolished a bag of hippo biltong in a day or riding around in the Cruiser. That reminds me...we need to advocate an introduction of hippos to this area.

I'm not suggesting avoiding the comments...I'm suggesting getting a good laugh out of the lunatics who comment while simultaneously making fun of all the losers who do unboxing videos of Kinder Eggs, iWatches and other silly ####.
