Do any of you guys know the best way to clear trophies from africa into Ontario? I'm going this october and am thinking about bringing home some skins & skulls.:D
Probably a warthog skull (which presents extra problems I'm told) and antelope skins.

Thanks for any and all suggestions

As far as getting the warthog or skins there is no problems I have freinds who have brought them in quite often.

Thanks For the info.
Have you dealt with Pro-dip? Does that price include the packing as well?
Does that company arrange the freight to canada as well?
thanks

What I did was to have all the trophies shipped to Animal Artistry in the US. There is no difficulty getting the trophies accepted by US Customs, and a company called Coppersmith does the brokerage for Animal Artistry. This is all handled by your PH. Coppersmith will contact you for a payment for the brokerage fee, once your trophies arrive in the US, and then the trophies are forwarded to Animal Artistry. These folks require 50% down, but then you can take as long as you like to pay the balance for and take possession of your trophies. My understanding is that the products enter Canada as manufactured items rather than animal products.

That's still in the works, but from what I've been lead to believe there will be no problem. It should be a simple matter of importing a manufacured item from the US. If I run into any snags I'll post the problems. I'm getting skulls from a buffalo, wildebeest, warthog, and an impala.

Edited to add - I just got off the phone with Animal Artistry, and they anticipate my trophies will be ready to ship mid-August. They received them from Tanzania about Christmas last year, so those folks must be pretty busy. Even if you don't plan to deal with them, their website has some pretty incredible examples of what they can do, including pedestal mounts and museum quality back drops.

Thanks Boomer
It sounds like you're doing almost exactly what I'm planning on doing!
I'm planning on a european mount Kudu, warthog, impala and a baboon skull.
If you don't mind me asking roughly how much did it all cost?
it looks like the dip, pack, freight, mount can be more money than going hunting!

If I remember right the dipping and packing was $2K, but that amount was regardless of the number of animals taken. All my mounts will be euro mounts, I don't recall right this second what the shipping to the US was. The taxidermy cost was just short of $2K, and that included tanning the wildebeest and buffalo hides.

Contact Orion Taxidermy in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.
Rion and staff are excellent taxidermists and deal with international shipping regularly. Generally have a few African pieces in the works at any time.

notlim2424,
Do you know if there are any problems with importing baboon skulls? I am of thinking about one or two, what with the cheap trophy fees and abundance. On the otherhand, if if is a paperwork nightmare I won't bother.

Dogleg,
I haven't really got a concrete answer from anyone about the baboons, My outfitter is in the states, so he only really knows the US FDA rules.
I'm going to phone the CCRA and see if I can find someone who really knows what is what. Baboons seem to be listed in cites , so at the very least I am anticipating cites permits will be required. I can let you know what I find out if you like.
