The unthinkable happened last night, just after cleaning my treasured 146-b i leaned it against the window frame and somehow it fell over and crashed to the floor destroying the original S101 front sight. The hood is bent, sight posts are bent, spring steel is bent, its toast.

I posted a WTB for a replacement in the EE, but it has honestly highlighted the fact that that sight is a weak point on this rifle. I dont like weak points, to the extent that i actually made a metal trigger guard for it to replace the plastic one normally found on these old Mossbergs.

Do any of you folks know what other options exist for these 146-b's that might work? Thinking there must be a lyman or something that would fit.
Im not concerned about keeping it all original, but i want it fully functional with iron sights to backup the scope.

I sent an answer to your post in EE but the original was probably a 1A ramp sight. The S-101 can be straighten but the big lollypop and peep sometimes break when trying to straighten. The Lyman 17A should fit your needs. The Lyman comes in different heights but the 17A is usually used and should match up to the S-130 peep..

Thanks, yeah i tried straightening the spring but its screwed. When i got it back together the posts are floppy and the hood wont lock in anymore.

Im gonna just leave it naked for now. Im guessi g the Lyman wont work though since those are dovetailed and this one is screwed to the barrel, its an S101 for sure.

As per my last message - Checked and you are correct on the S-101. My bad. Sometimes the spring does not go in correctly but if it is bent too much I have put a piece (small) of rubber band under the spring with good results. I usually remove the hood and keep it and other parts separate but labelled for that rifle.
