Took a few photos of my latest (and probably last) hunt of a river valley near Wellington that has provided me with many tasty goats over the last 6 months. Proved to be a real easy one as we stumbled on a small group of goats after about 40 minutes and a picked out this nice little one for the curry pot. It was my first time shooting the Norc M305 and I was pretty pleased with the results, might even have to get one myself.

Really wishing I had more time in this amazing country to move outwards from Wellington and get into some decent hunting territory but that'll have to wait til next time I'm around.

Not too sure on the load. It was a steel cased soft point of some sort that came as part of a M305 shorty package deal. I think it was Barnard 168gr. but who knows, it did the job! When my buddy told me he had picked one up I was hoping that he had gotten the package with the suppressor but t'was not the case... I've had a chance to fire a few bolt-actions with suppressors and they make such a huge difference so I was really keen to see what I suppressed semi would be like in comparison.

Coming from Nova Scotia, hunting here has been mind-blowing. Five species of deer throughout the country, tahr, chamois, pigs, goats and tons of upland game like pheasants, rabbits, peacocks and turkeys really makes for good times all year-round. Most Kiwi hunters REALLY work hard for their deer compared to what I've been used to at home. I've never done less than a 4-hour tramp into any hunting area that held deer and between the times of peak activity we'd usually head up some huge (by Nova Scotian standards :D) ridge for a stalk, something I'd never bothered to do at home.

I never managed a deer in NZ but I'd like to attribute that to my lack of the bush and unfortunately heavy work schedule ;) Working on the vineyard in the South Island made afternoon hunts pretty easy to manage and the rabbit hunting there is unparalleled! Typical afternoon's catch below using a Stirling Model 14P.

Nice! I'd love to hunt NZ one day, beautiful place!

Cheers

I haven't done any hunting in Canada outside of the Maritimes but NZ is definitely the place to be if you're addicted to hunting as many of us are ha ha. No seasons and no restrictions in most cases on what you can shoot makes it pretty easy to decide what's on for a long weekend.

My wife's brother lives in Karamea (South Island). Fishing and hunting in NZ are awesome. The black flies (Kiwis refer to them as sand flies) always reminded me of home. They don't have no-see-ums down there, quite a disappointment. They don't have bears either. Shooting (rabbits) hares is a public service as they are a nuisance species in NZ. Nice people and an affordable place to be when the snow is flying up here.
