I only recently found out about these...

Where could a guy get one and for how much? Are there any lurking issues that make these "problem" rifles?

Also, any tips on good places to buy milsurps?

Thanks.

Great rifles, I picked one up off the EE in 2012 it came with the cleaning/parts kit a couple boxes of PPU ammo and 100 rounds of new brass for $340.

Magazines are almost impossible to find.
Make sure you get one with the gun!
They top-load, so you dont really need more than one mag.

Watch your fingers around the action. They are very accurate rifles, especially for a semi. I really enjoy firing mine with reloaded ammo. Get one, you won't regret it !

Roughly 400-600$ seems to be the price range. Personally I would be looking in the 450$ range. Biggest issue is being careful with the ammo. Do not use federal ammo or primers in these rifles, they can have a out of battery detonation due to how sensitive the federal primers are (I know from experience). Definitely cool and accurate, however I would recommend reloading for them with a harder style of primer due to the issue I mentioned above.

Definitely. My friend called his "the snapper" and he came close a few times.

Recommend watching a youtube video or two on take down and review to make sure you don't feed it any body parts.

BTW there are two for sale at the Lansborough auction two weeks from now although usually the price will go higher than you would want to pay or would pay here on GN.

You can also bid live on icollector or drive if you are in the GTA as it is just west of Brantford but your buyer commission will be less if you are in person and of course no shipping etc

Fine rifles, seen a few with small throats so watch what you use for ammo. The bolt retaining catch will break if abused.
Keep them clean and you will have a lot of fun.
Be well

lots of info here on them , the search engine and google is your friend , very accurate rifles .

i'll touch on a few things that others have already mentioned ...

keep your fingers out of the action , it makes garand thumb look like a mosquito bite .
the magazine is worth more than half the value of the rifle , DON"T lose it .
although it will fire one hundred sixty grain ammo , it was designed for one forty .

there is a piece of literature out there that recommends "oiling or greasing ammo" to aid in ejection of cases , DO NOT DO THIS EVER . it will cause excessive rearward bolt thrust that can tear apart a rifle , and shooter .
ammo must be clean and dry always

when reloading use a power similar to imr 4064 in burn rate , as slower burning powders cause too much pressure in the gas system .

adjustable gas system . the hakim rifle has it , the AG-42 should have had it . it is easy enough to do , and will allow you to safely use slower burning powders and all ammunition .... it also makes finding the brass easier .

magazines , the hakim mag will work with little to no modification . the other magazine that an be made to work is one off of the mg13 .

btw the floating firing pin will dent the primers . I haven't had a issue with a out of battery firing , but I no longer use my rifle unless i'm also using cci#34 primers .
I have also been told to avoid all federal primers , and by extension all federal ammo in this rifle , at all costs , due to the fact that federal primers are more sensitive than others .

I had a look at their online site; Lots of interesting firearms. Thanks for the tip.

Bought mine at a local auction about 30 years ago. No one there knew what it was, and it was called a "semi auto Swedish Mauser" (later when it was registered it was registered as a torped overslag or whatever the Swedish translation of "spitzer" is).

As suggested: Mind your fingers. They certainly close with authority! Mind where you stand while someone is firing them as the brass ejection in an unmodified one is as serious as the bullet, and mangles the brass. Keep track of your magazine!

Unmentioned: The direct gas system(no piston) is based on functionality around the ammo used at the time, and isn't adjustable. Using modern factory ammo can cause cycling concerns (and an extra violent ejection). One of the most accurate semi 'surps ever made. These can be a pleasure to shoot (with serious hearing protection...they are loud!!!) and are almost entirely recoil free. Wrap that around the venerable 6.5x55, and it's a serious gem.

Awesome sticky on the Ljungman, and sister rifles (Hakim, and Rashid) up top. I have the taps n' dies to make gas port screws, and hopefully will get a chance to continue that project soon.
