I just got an AG42B on trade and the rifle showed up with several cracks in the stock. I started to take the gun apart to assess the cracks for repair but as I continued to take the gun apart it revealed several more cracks. There is a total of 9 cracks. Three at the but of the stock, one in the tang, three on the inside of the stock, one at the stock cross bolt, and one in the upper handguard. Is it worth repairing this stock?

The stock is unbelievable how dry it is. I put a little bit of BLO on the side of the stock and the stock actually bubbled as it was absorbing the oil.

Believe it or not I have seen worse. I probably would put a reinforcing pin or two, fore and aft of the action. But if the splits are "clean" (close fully when side pressure is applied) I see no reason why the stock couldn't be salvaged. Just requires time and careful work. Don't put more linseed oil on it because the wood should be as clean and dry as possible before repair.

As long as you're not concerned about the cracks being visible, the easiest way to stabilize them is to flood them with thinned CA glue. It's a trick commonly used in guitar repair. Some of them look very tight, and would be difficult to get the CA glue in the crack at all, but I don't really know of any other way to do it.

Those seem to be fairly common spots for the ag42 to develop cracks. Most I have seen have hairline cracks behind the tang. It is a design flaw. The swedes should have rounded the tang to prevent this. I believe that the crack by the handgaurd was caused by excessive pressure through the gas rod! I wouldn't be to concerned with those cracks. You could always reinforce it with some wood epoxy if you wanted to!

My ag42 has a crack in the stock behind the reciever but the arsenal inserted a pin in the stock to reinforce it
Kinda like how you see some svt40s with the extra crossbolt in them
