How do I tell the age of the gun and where do I go to find out?

I'll post a pic in few min. But any info would much appreciated

If you go to the omniscient google and search Winchester dates. Plug in the serial # under the model selection and ....voila !

The woods look way short of the metal,so probably were either sanded too much or have come from another gun. The only time i have seen coins etc. inset in the stocks.were in commemoratives or home grown. It was once a saddle ring carbine but that is missing too.


Worth more in memories than dollars.

the bore looks in good condition so it should be ok to shoot. I'm trying to find some info on the gun? Anyone know of a good winchester site that might have some info on this gun?
 
i do not know what more info you want. Many on here have a great deal of knowledge on Winnies. The one you have is in poor shape visually, not high in value unless it can be lettered by cody (serial numbered below 353,000. circa 1906), can be shown to be a Special order gun with several special order items, factory confirmation, woods untouched, lots of blueing on the metal parts, no rust or pitting, excellent bore, restoreable.

there is the winchester arms collectors association you could contact ( google)and ask members on that forum. But you may certainly not like thier answers.

i'd trust it if it wasn't that pitted it all depends on the condition in which the bore and the action are. he still found it in a barn...
