I have an older 870 Wingmaster and im curious to know how old is really is...

My dad bought it for me about 8 years ago for $500 used. the serial number starts with 8689, and it has a 27" ribbed barrel with screw in chokes. it doesn't say magnum on it, so its been my assumption its only 2 3/4. also it didn't have a recoil pad on when purchased.

any information would be greatly appreciated. value would be nice too, tho its not for sale :D

here are some pictures:

thanks guys :D

Barrel is from a current production express model. Not original to the gun. The recoil pad is not original. Now for the good part the gun is a late '60 vintage Wingmaster one of the best Remington built. You are right it is a 2 3/4" receiver. It will last you two lifetimes.

Call Remington. Give them the serial # and they will tell you the year of manufacture and original configuration. No promises on the real old models!

Their toll free number is on their web site.

The barrel looks like a recent Express barrel. Remington can tell you when the rest of the gun was made by the serial number.

Your shotgun was most likely 2-3/4" originally. The only difference in the receiver is the ejector; a 3" ejector is longer so as to sit farther back in the receiver so that 3" shells won't hang up in the ejection port. Ejectors can be changed out, but the new rivets will show on the other side of the receiver unless it is refinished.
