Hey CGNrs,

I've been looking at buying a AA 417 Comp for my Gen4 G19 and am just wondering if anyone has tried one, owns one, and has installed one themselves. Just looking for feedback and maybe pics if possible before I throw the +$150 at one.

Cheers!

The primary issue with comps is that, in order to get it to actually "work", you need to generate sufficient gas. This doesn't usually happen until you get into ammo in the +P range. Some standard 9x19 may give you a slight benefit but not likely. The best solution here is to go to a lighter bullet and handload...

The other issue is that you will have to run a lighter than stock recoil spring in order to retain reliability in cycling as the comp uses up (steals) some of the rearward momentum from the slide. I was running a KKM comp for a bit and was down to a 13 pound recoil spring. As your G19 is a Gen4, You may have to obtain an adapter to use a standard Gen1-3 guide rod in it in order to go to a light spring...

Hope this helps and that I've articulated it adequately...

Not really in 9x19 - 9x23 or .38 Super for sure. I got about the same recoil mitigation by adding a Surefire X300 to the frame. Keep in mind this is VERY subjective as I've talked to guys who stated that they felt a huge benefit from the comp, what I did notice is that when using hotter 9mm ammo the gun recoiled about the same as far as "feel" but shot flatter. I just didn't feel like the juice was worth the squeeze but YMMV...

Articulated perfectly!

I've watched a few reviews that say using 124gr instead of 115gr will be when you will notice a difference; they mention using +P will as well. But that being said, once you pay $150 or more for something, you can convince yourself that it helps even if it doesn't lol!

Thank you, you've met the intention of the originator with the minimum of delay ;)

That's what the Guns are all about!!

That's good to know!

I like the look as well! Some people dig the look of a comp, some don't! Do you have any photos to share on this thread? Did you install it yourself?

sorry for the really late reply.

install was easy. comes with supplied thread lock. one thing that irks me is that i also have a gold agency barrel and the colors do not match.

i had a chance to put about 300 more rounds and found that its a bit easier to shoot now, especially follow up shots as the gun doesnt recoil up as hard as before

Some of the guys in Canada that I have chatted with about it have a bunch of rounds down range with it already using factory ammo and all of them have said the same thing - improved accuracy. I have installed 1 on a buddy's 17L and it is simple and straight forward, I know the guys at Black Leaf in Edmonton had them pretty much the same time they were released in the US which is nice.

I have got a chance to shoot a bunch of guns with the 417 and the new 417C which is not out yet and I really like how you can almost drive the gun harder. But, again that might all be in a guys head after he spends $150.00 and tells himself he can feel a difference.

looks great! where did you pic it up from?

Check out ctc.

I was at the range on sat and rented a stock glock17.

My friend who never shot my gun said it was a night and day difference.

The comp really pushes the front down so its much easier to sight again for the next shot.

The stock glock felt like it bounced everywhere and with the higher stock sight. Took longer to get used to it.

I would say with about $500 of mods you can get a really fun shooting gun. Hell i enjoy it as much as my 226 now.

@jasonv... looks awesome dude!

@JungerJager... I am definitely considering dealing with Black Leaf on the 417C once its available. As for guys convincing themselves it shoots better after dropping the cash for a pistol comp make sense. I will probably get it for my G19 and use my stock G17 as a "sort of" comparison.
