Gen 4 slide works if you use a gen 5 g17 barrel and rear plate and change the slide release also

Gen 5 slide releases aren't compatible with Gen 4 slides because there is no right side relief cut on Gen 4 slide to accommodate the ambidextrous release. The striker pin and safety plunger are also different between the Gen 4 and Gen 5 slides. The barrel lock ups between the Gen 4 and Gen 5 are also different so you can't drop a Gen 4 barrel into a Gen 5 slide and vice versa, because you'll end up damaging the lugs on the barrel or the top of your slide where the barrel locks into the slide or both. Basically keep your Gen 4 parts with Gen 4 pistols and Gen 5 parts with Gen 5 pistols.
