AGI Gunsmithing Coarse

Only problem with courses like that is there is no interaction or hands on. Cannot ask questions. If your're going to spend a huge amount then take a course in the USA. Money better spent IMO if you have a live instructor and machines to practice with.

Or apprentice with a gunsmith somewhere.

I like the AGI gunsmith videos. Wont become a smith but it should help to disassemble or reassemble a gun. They even have some milling ones which seem pretty informative.

I have most of the AGI videos and they are good to check out but not really something to learn a skill from.

regardless of topic, you can only learn so much from a video.

I agree with the above , the videos are good to get some different perspectives on how to do some things but are not going to take the place of technical schools that teach gunsmithing and machining practices.

I have a lot of the AGI courses on DVD also, the instructor is very knowledgeable but extremely boring. If you enjoy Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off then these videos are right up your alley, :)

Have a cup of coffee, walk outside when it is -20C for 5 minutes, run inside and try to stay awake during the video. Some of the other videos have other instructors and difference is night and day to the boredom factor.

Camera work is good to poor, some shots are from I swear 20 feet away and the guy is trying to show you how to install a carrier spring in a shotgun, that is if your eyes are still open.

Like others have said , how much are you really going to learn from a video. You will be able to take apart the firearm and reassemble it and check for wear. Do you honesty think you can lighten a trigger on a 1911 watching a video?

Can't imagine there whole gunsmith course is made up of material that is new and not covered in these dvd's.

Only reason I have the DVD's is a bought them in the US at a pawn shop for really cheap.

Thank you all for your help. I may pick up a few gun specific videos for personal reference. Guess I should try to find someone to apprentice under as going away for school is not an option.

At one time AGI would not ship to Canada, maybe that has changed because it was several years ago.

The AGI videos I have seen will not make you into a gunsmith by any means. Very basic general info for the most part and not worth the price in my opinion.

You can get most of the AGI videos online on several different torrents. Search "AGI". Of course i don't suggest that you download pirated DVDs because it is against CGN policy to discuss anything illegal, immoral, or fattening. But you could just get a small sample online and then decide if you want to spend the $$ on the real thing from AGI.

Personally I wouldn't bother.

Hummmm....for some reason, I thought this was more or less the same as those old "matchbook courses", you know: get your High-school diploma, gun repair, locksmithing, etc. Just check the correct ticky-box on the inside of the matchbook cover, and you're set. Passing the final exam was determined on whether or not you mailed the matches :D

Instead of wasting money on these videos, download them.
