aguila ammo

You can have small batches exported from the US/imported into Canada for personal use through various retailers but need to pay for all fees yourself. That's how some people have gotten Brenneke slugs in Canada.
Having a brand of ammo tested by NRCan can cost tens of thousands of dollars from my understanding. Until it is tested and approved it cannot be sold in the retail market. The smaller manufacturers don't want to pay for it themselves since the market in Canada is just too small. None of the importers will pay for it for the same reason.

yeah i remember reading somewhere that people were buying aguila ammo at CT a while back.

Years ago all I shot was Aguila SE .22 LR that I bought at Canadain Tire. How can it not be ok for import when it was sold here for years previously with no problems? More stupid people making the rules I guess.

There is no exception to importing ammunition for personal use vis a vis the List of Authorized Explosives. The 5,000 round personal limit exempts you only from requiring an explosives import certificate; it does not permit you to import non-authorized ammunition.

It may have been previously authorized and then let lapse or it may have been illegally/mistakenly imported. Customs tend to be very poor enforcers of the Explosives Act, mainly due to lack of knowledge.

I was going from what was said in the Brenneke thread. I guess the Brenneke slugs a bunch of people managed to get were a mistake? A couple guys claim to have contacted NRCan and they said Brenneke slugs have never been approved and no companies have contacted them to do so. Yet several people claim to have had them imported in private. Smuggled?

Essentially. Businesses can bring in samples for testing, where the ammo is not approved. Also sometime Customs is unaware of the regulations. In either case the Brenneke brand ammo is not approved for sale in Canada.

FWIW Trigger Wholesale is currently claiming to be the Aguilla distributor so ammo may be arriving sooner rather than later.
