Hello CGN'ers, I was at the range this morning trying to sight in my Savage MkII BTV in .22lr so that it would shoot the Aguila 60 grain Subsonic Sniper's dead on at 25 Yards. I soon realized that about 2/3rds of the rounds fired were hitting the paper sideways. Now I know these are heavy for caliber, but I'm not sure if my rifle's twist rate is the issue, or maybe they are smaller than bore size for some reason? My calipers are all the way down I Windsor, so I won't be able to check the size of the projectiles until Thursday. Is it possible that the twist rate is so slow as to cause them to tumble and hit sideways at 25 yards? I seem to be shooting all the other .22 lr ammo I use just fine. Thanks much!

It’s the twist rate. You need a faster 1:9 or 1:8 barrel made up to use them to their potential. I experienced similar results years ago with the bullets keyholing. They’re the cats ass for dispatching raccoons in traps though.

Thanks much. That really sucks as they have great potential for hunting. Perhaps I'll have to look at getting a 1:8" barrel installed, or finding another rifle to shoot them from.
