Well, I swore off M-14's for the longest time, then I started playing with one and tinkering just becuase I figured I really ought to own one, or at least try one for awhile. How's a guy supposed to bash a gun he's only borrowed once in awhile? (NOT a good line of reasoning with your wife)

Well, I like it :x I used to deem the stock vs bore geometry outdated and inadequate and the hook in mags a PITA and the exposed bolt used to bug me... (I know it's been working fine for ages, but just so it did  ) Hmm... And a lot of other things... :p Anyways, started playing with one, and while I do find it climbs a bit on recoil its stock is remarkably natural and comfortable using irons, the mags are quick to change nonetheless, and the action is easy to operate. Overall, I'd say I'm at the very least a partial M-14 convert :) Oh, and it's lighter than I figured with the USGI stock, not bad :)

What I've been playing with:

Yeah, the front sight is a metric Navy H&K ring style gas lock sight, the USGI fibergalss stock I picked up from a buddy. You can find them floating around in the exchange of parts and bits forum for $70-$100 depending on condition, this one was perfect which made the job easier for the finish :) I painted it with Krylon camo paint, "desert tan" or whatever they call this colour, I'm pleased with the result. Also has a nice texture to the paint, quite non slip and unexpected bonus.

No actually, but you are quite right it does seem a tad darker than average, I am very pleased with the finish on this one. Perhaps it's just a perception thing with the tan stock, would need to compare side by side. The rear sight is also pretty good, another bonus.

As for the FAL, yeah, I'd love to... :? :(

I like the color like the fact that it is simple and functional. the sight is the H&K style, metric threads for the M305's. I still got a few if anyone interested. could you let me know the exact collor on the can, I'd like to paint one the same. thanks,

It's funny but an M14 is just one of those guns that makes you smile every time you shoot it. You can't just have one either.

I'll check and PM you, and yeah I just love the simple good looks of it. PS the rifle is getting one of your spring guides and a bolt release I just picked up.
