Who has taken the "Hunter Education" course recently? Am I the only one who is finding the course brutal to get through? It reads like an 80's National Geographic commercial. But for hhhhhoooouuuuuurrrssss.

Hunting better be worth this pain. ;)

my wife took the aheia courses both for hunting and firearms. She said she really liked it even wanted me to take it, even though I already had all my paperwork.

Helped a new hunter get through it online. Maybe it was my sketchy Internet connection but we got halfway through and lost all progress, had to do it over. So I dont have much use for it at this point. Seems to be a well put together program though.

I recently took it ( as this will be my first year hunting) and i have to agree, the program was terribly slow! it was well put together and i learned a lot, but it simply took forever to accomplish.

I think that AHEIA could really lessen a lot of the material, especially regarding material that isnt really that relevant to hunting, for example, its nice to know what kind to buy and how to sharpen an axe, but its not all that relevant to hunting.

Just my .02,

Sam

when i took it a few years ago, i just about had an anurisium. the manditory reading times were brutal, i would finish reading... study then have enough time to go watch a show or even a movie while waiting for the time to expire so i could write a chapter test. The lack of real photos (they used a lot of artist sketches) for animals, informtion that was down right wrong (first aid was a huge one) left me a bit bitter. I wrote a leangthy letter to AHIEA, and corisponded via email on points to improve on.

So what some are saying then is, it's better to take the online course if you want to do it at your own pace (not someone else's) ?

I'm planning on calling tomorrow to register for the course here in Calgary.
