After the recent CFO visit to our range and being told there should be NOTHING but paper downrange, we'd most likely get screamed at by someone for doing such a thing.

One of the first rules of shooting is that if something is downrange, it's going to get hit. Therefore I've always preferred chronos that are designed with the sensors downrange and the smarts back with the shooter. A much less expensive oops. (Pact & CED have been my regular #####es)

The statute of limitations is long over on this story, so I think I can tell it - I once was at an IPSC match where a chrono was causing regular low readings, everyone was upset. I came around the corner just as the chrono operator was taking aim with some one's gun - on the dead center of the chrono. BAM! no more chrono. Every one's power factor was taken as claimed. Everyone was happy. Smart Chrono operator.

My brother and I were in the gun shop one day discussing the need for a few things. The deal ended up I bought the chrono...he needed it and he bought a bunch of bullets (we both needed some), powder and some other goos I don't remember now as it was some days ago. While I am assembling the chrono he reads the instructions to us both only to finish up with all be d***ed there's an order form and a price list off all the parts in this thing. About three weeks later he bought a chrono for himself as we were waiting for parts for mine thanks to a close shave from a 25-06 followed by a rather disturbing blast to the gonads from a 416 Rigby.
Funny part is I can't find my chrono anymore. I think it went with him when he moved across the continent, course he says he doesn't have it only his own.

Many years ago, my first Chrony met it's demise from a 87gr bullet from a 6mm Remington. Blew it up real good
My second (and current one) had the plastic diffusers shot off by a buddy who wanted to see how fast his loads were.

Did the same thing. Bought one off the EE, did one trip to the gravel pit, didn't like the numbers. Went out the next day, got 5 good rounds across it, then, WHAM. Gotta send it in and get er' rebuilt guess. Gotta laugh at myself though. Luckily no one was around to see it.

Is this a good thread to ask for recommendations for Chronies? Or models to avoid?
I've used a Shooting Chrony and it was fine, and a CED M2 (2 of them in tandem) and found them to be CRAP!

Yup, and FN PS90's! Drilled mine through the middle, forgot how low the bore was!
