I'm sure you can find a lighter rifle than an AIA to take deer hunting. They are accurate and easy to shoot. The rear flip sight leaves a bit to be desired but isn't bad when you get used to it. The front sight is a bit difficult to aquire in low light but that is easily remedied as well.
As for scope mounting, I have mounted a scope on its larger brother and it is a veritable tack driver. The 7.62x39 version is very accurate as well. Doesn't seem to care what ammunition is used in it either. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't shoot just as well with a scope.
Again, they are a handy length but they are heavy. If you can afford it, get a lighter rifle. Say a Winchester or Marlin lever action. The hunting ammunition is easier come by for them as well.
