Well, I was thinking of getting one of these before our dollar hits bottom and the zombies take over, (just half kidding really :p) but I am not too impressed with the rear iron sight that comes with it, what would be a better rear sight option for one of these rifles? Would one of the ladder sights for a .303 #4 fit in the rear sight area? If so, I guess you would have to put your own sighting marks as the sight is obviously calibrated for a .303? Is it possible to get a Parker Hale 5C sight and get it on there somehow? - and lastly is it really a realistic expectation that you are even going to be able to find a Parker Hale 5C sight with a 7.62 plate? Any insight would be appreciated.

I used to have a DCRA 7.62 NATO conversion Enfield. which had a proper 7.62 calibrated target rear sight [ before Canada Post drove over it with a forklift ]

Those old DCRA matches were held using ONLY GI issue 7.62 NATO BALL ammo. The rear sight was specifically calibrated for that same 7.62 NATO spec BALL ammo.

These days, a proper 7.62 NATO PH rear sight is probably a pretty rare and collectible item. Unless you are using 7.62 NATO spec ball [and who would do that these days when much more accurate ammo is readily available ?], the rear sight markings won't actually match the trajectory. If you are planning to use heavier, more accurate ammo, then you will have to work out the "ajustimication" yourself, probably through trial and error.

So you might as well start with the cheaper, more common .303 Target rear sight.

PS: Does anyone know what the diameter of the AIA M10 No.4 mk.IV barrel is between the muzzle and the front sight mount?

How accurate are these rifles??
I've been thinking of getting one myself, as I really did like my old DCRA rifle.

But realistically, nostalgia aside, I suppose that the tikka and remington and savage "tacticool" offerings will probably give me a more accurate stick for less cost.

Or will they??

Another option I was thinking about was getting a good scope on it and getting a bipod on it. That way being a leftie, I can work the bolt with my off hand from the prone. - I don't know much about the Tikkas, other than the AIA, I would only consider a Remington 700 in one of the available flavours.

Lazerus 2000, with similar bullet weights and designs, the 303 Brit and the 7.62x51 are kissing cousins. There shouldn't be any difference in the issue rear sights.

So a No. 4 rear sight should just go right in there, eh?

I've got my AIA scoped right now but would like to have a better iron-sight setup in case my scope gets busted or the CSRA guys want to have a nostalgia shoot.

Screwy trajectories aside; do you guys figure one of these should fit the ticket?

there has been a thread on this before. Y2K on hear has one done up with a PH5 site. as for the #4 Mk1 site, yes if you want it to lay flat, you have to mill a slot if you want it to sit flat
