AIA M10 No4 Mk4

Can't be found! Give up and send the rifle to me ;) ...... On a more serious note I have seen a few wanted adds for the rail and its sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Maybe find a machinist to make one? I have the #5 (7.62x39) version. If it would help I could take pics of it, or measure it?? Good luck on the search!

I'm in to receive pics of the original mount too. Can't believe i lost mine as well. I think i will resolve to get one made. Argh!

I don't have many pics of the rail...I never mounted the rail on the rifle I had years ago.

Is it just me or do they never look entirely straight?

It’s not just you. I bought two and both rails were bowed a little. I commented here about the utter garbage finishing of my 7.62x39 rifle and another member guessed at parts being warped in the blasting cabinet before being parked.

Likely as any theory I guess.

...thanks.

A bowed rail would put stress on a scope tube no? The two rings wouldn't be parallel/concentric. You could/would bugger your scope.

Might be better off to get a clever machinist/gunsmith to make a new rail.

At the least you'd need rings like Burris Signature Zee rings that have movable and offset inserts that can help make up for misalignment.

I don't own one of these rifles, so can't truly speak to this as an option, but in the absence of replacement AIA mounts, how about using a Fultons mount? Made of steel, Weaver rail, mounts to the rear sight pivot and cinches down on the charger bridge. I have one on one of my No.4s and it works great. Not cheap, but...

One thing I've sadly noticed about the AIA's being bought and sold over the years: Every time they change hands, they shed a few of the parts they were supplied with new.

Originally they had:

Rifle
Teak cheek rest (for you to install if you wanted)
AIA front sight adjustment tool
(2) factory AIA magazines
Scope rail and screws
Green AIA rifle case

Without fail, when the rifle is sold on, the owner keeps some of this stuff. It's very rare to see one for sale with all of the original fixin's.

Too bad as these extras aren't for sale anymore, if they ever were.

A few weeks ago, I sent the rifle to spend some time in the more than capable hands of a local gunsmith and fellow shooting enthusiast(CGN Victory) in order to build a Picatiny rail from a billet of steel. Not a problem he says.

A couple of weeks later, Robert brings me the gun. Nicely done! It's an aerospace quality piece of work, complete with counter-sunk allen head machine screws. The rail is "just long enough". The 18 year old- but good as day one SWFA Super Sniper 16x, 30mm tube optic is well known for repeatable precision work. My goal is to be able to shoot a 155 gr Sierra HPBT Match bullet well under 1 MOA with optice fitted. The rifle will be fitted with a backup micrometer sight from a No.4 Mk.2 Enfield. -I'll have to make a calibration card for it if the ballistics don't match up reasonably closely.

The rifle will be fed reloads, so if I can tune the load for a genesis of accuracy on sight setting combined with decent groups, then that would be a workable load for some of our Mil Surp rifle shoots..It won't be an F/TR gun, but if the year was 1960, this would be sort of a holy grail of target rifles in certain circles.

If you get off on Enfields, It's arguably the most fun you can have with a No.4 without killing an original pattern No.4 MK.2 or DCRA conversion. Not to say this rifle is as capable of shooting a V-Bull...Yet.
Once the weather improves, it will get a thorough workout in order to determine areas to improve upon. Maybe it will/ Maybe it won't. At the very least, it will be fun trying and I might even learn something in the process.
Here are a few mock up pix, prior to installing the NOS sniper cheek-piece.
Here a a few pix of the mock up. The scope rings will be replaced with a set of low 30mm units and a vernier aperture sight will back up the optics.
