Yay or nay? I'm considering an AX/R700 .308 build and I'd like to hear from those familiar with the AX chassis. Are the mags proprietary or can standard aftermarket aics mags be used? Does the stock lock up solid? Likes/dislikes/caveats? The rifle will be used mostly for prone off bipod/bags as well as positional shooting with a sling. Mainly shooting steel with occasional paper targets depending on what I feel like that day. Shorter barrel and modest ranges. Not looking for competetive 900m performance just a fun LR setup.

The stock/hinge lock up is tight and solid as hell. Can't help with much else as mine is an AW rifle.

Cadex is another option high on my list but they're pretty well reviewed and to get the features I want just right its a much more expensive route. That's why I want to hear from AX users. I'm a huge fan of AICS chassis but I can't find all the info I'm after to compare with Cadex.

Any reason you prefer the AX chassis to say, Cadex? I always viewed AICS as a bit old school - I think there are better options on the market today.

I've shot both a cadex light strike and a ai ax.
Better bedding system on the ax, less bulky, lower height over bore, I prefer the 2014+ ax butt stock to the cadex, both use similar folding mechanisms that lock up tight as a drum. The ax has a better rail layout with their keymod stuff as well. 2014 + Ax all the way. The older version ax would have been a toss up with the cadex.
The ax uses a proprietary mag that rocks in like an ak mag, it allows the mag to be solid and still have the large cut out on the left side for easy mag changes while prone, without disturbing the rifle.

I'm biased though, insite arms 6xc/Krieger/surgeon in a 2014+ ax:

Thank you for the feedback and pics NTM, that rifle is mint. I like the looks of the other AX buttstock but looks are lower on the list than functionality and quality. I would really like to set the rifle up with folding buis, most likely KAC, and an ADM mount for my DMR 3.5-21. That may end up being too much of a compromise to make work together. If you're wondering why some idjit wants buis on a precision rifle, well, I love shooting irons at steel. Ultimately having a precision rifle set up with both buis and a scope, being able to switch between the two easily would be a dream come true. But an AI rifle is out of the budget so yeah.

I like my AX (got a screaming deal on it, so I couldn't refuse). It does have a proprietary mag, but I have used it with standard AICS 10rders since day one and never had an issue.

Very cool, I like Accurate mags. Is the forend length optional? AICS website states 13" SA and 16" LA but I've seen 16" forends on SA rifles. I like the looks of the 16" forend with a 20" bbl.
