So planning on importing a AICS stock for my Rem 700 PSS.

Now the question - 2.0 or 1.5?

What practical use can a folding stock have for a long target rifle? I do hunt from time to time with this rifle keep in mind. Help me out folks!

Well, from what I've seen the primary benefit is if you have a really long OAL and need to fit it into a case/small size cabinet or safe.

I do like me some folding rifles, but mostly for small ones to maximize the OAL reduction.

To take the bolt out - or put it in, you have to remove the cheek rest, or fold the stock. No folding stock = you will be removing the cheek rest a lot.

Folding also allows you to fit it in a shorter case, but the case would have to be a thick one, as the rifle is quite thick when folded.

I don't know if you would ever do this but, if you were riding in a vehicle with the rifle in your lap, being able to fold the stock would be a good thing.

This shows what I mean as between the bolt and the cheek rest. This is a real Artic Warfare, but I don't believe it is any different with a AICS stock with any other action:

Why import yourself? There are several vendors here in Canada that sell them. A 1.5 doesn't fold, the 2.0 is the folding version. Go find one (they're not hard to find, ATRS has one on the shelf) and try it first, you may not like it. There are hinges and latches sticking out in nasty places, and I found the pistol grip to be quite short. Otherwise as Stevebot-7 said, folding it makes it easier to pack and store.

I have an AI rifle and had a Rem 700 in an AICS. The AI I have is a non folder and the AICS was a folding stock. I did not find any benefit to the folding stock personally but that's just me. On both they had the thumbscrews on the cheekpiece rather than using an Allen wrench and it took less time to remove the cheekpiece for cleaning purposes than it did to fold the stock. If the only reason to buy a folding stock is for removing the bolt get the either the round or wing nut type screws for the cheekpiece. Makes it much easier to adjust and also can be removed in less time han it takes to fold it.

I'm not a fan of folders but I went with the 2.0 because of length. The oa on my rifle is 47", folded to 39" makes life easier. Another big advantage is cleaning. I clean from chamber out and you'd have to remove the riser on the 1.5 to do this.

Is that rifle in a "Long Action"..?

I don't have any problem removing the bolt from my Rem700 SA using the AICS 1.5.
There's plenty of clearance..

I am going to get mine through Euro Optics imported by Prophet River, since all the other vendors seem to be sold out.

Y'can't always go by what a vendors website tells you.
When I was looking for my AICS 1.5 my vendor of choice had them listed as "out of stock"...
I emailed to confirm and to find out about how long it would be before they'd have 'em and low an' behold...
They actually did have the one I wanted.
'Couple of days later it arrived at my door...

With a short action Rem 700 in a 2.0, I don't need to remove the cheekpiece or fold the stock to remove the bolt. Or is it possible to adjust the cheekpiece more forward, and that is causing the confusion? Folding is handy for cleaning or looking down the bore.

Gotta get some thumbscrews so I don't have to carry an allen wrench for the cheekpeice.

O.K., I'm wrong about generalizing my experience with the AW to the AICS. The AW in the pic is the short action. Definitely cannot get the bolt out without either folding the stock or removing the cheek piece.

Having said that... folding is a nice feature to have in my view - for cleaning, etc. Other people do just fine without it.

I had an AI stock with a short action Rem 700 and yes I could remove the bolt with the cheek piece in place but I definitely could not clean it without removing the cheek piece.

If I was to buy another one today I would get the folding version for this reason alone.

There is no downside to the folding version because the locking mechanism is tight. Plus with the folding stock out of the way, you will not be dripping stinky solvent all over the stock that you later will put you nose and face to.

Last time I spoke with Prophet River, they refused to import from Euro Optics. Are you assuming they will import it because they import from other American companies? Not trying to attack you, I'm genuinely curious if their policy changed. Euro Optics are great people and I never understood why they were singled out.

What is a folding stock precision rifle for? Maximum LCF! (Look cool factor) Otherwise, not much use unless you travel to and work the range in a cramped multi-role vehicle or routinely HALO jump into the range.

My current build will be sporting an AICS 2.0 folder, reason being is I like to hike into my shooting spots. Having a rifle folded into a backpack snags on less things and packs a little nicer for me.
