Aimng a pistol, ironsights

When aiming a modern handgun such as a Glock or a Cz75 with a three dot system, say you line everything up properly(level and in the centre). Relating to the front post, is the bullet supposed to go where the dot on the front post is or at the top of the front post?

Weird question I know, I've looked at a few shooting tips and they aren't really clear. I always thought it was where the dot is.

on glocks, top of your front post (when aligned with rear) is where your POI should be. Unlike with a sig (what i'm used to shooting) you cover your target with the dot. I keep doing #3 with my glock and always wonder why it hits high.

#2 is glock, #3 is sig.

2 and 3 are actually the same thing. Or at least the difference in POI is simply the 2 or 3 mm from the sights being raised to go from 2 to 3. But 2 gives you a better view of what you're aiming at. And potentially more accuracy by placing the spot you want to hit right in the middle of the front blade's top line. In picture 3 a smaller size center bull can hide behind the front sight at longer distances. If we were in the US or for those of us living in Surrey and with TruGlo sights 3 is the preferred method for using the glowing sights in dark situations....

1 is the classic bullseye match setup. It is a really good setup. But it relies on shooting the same size target at the same distance all the time. It is actually set to aim under the POI by an amount that matches the center black spot on a standard target. But because it's shooting at an offset the distance and size of the black spot are critical to making this work.
